Every fisherman and photographer has a million "the one that got away" stories and this is one more entry. I was sitting in a right turn lane waiting for my light and took this as a zoom thru the windshield. The instant I took it, my light turned green so I lowered the camera and started rolling. Exactly one nanosecond later, a cop pulled up to this biker's right and was checking him out pretty close but I already had cars rolling behind me so I couldn't get the big bonus shot. Aaargh.
This is a photograph from the 60th Anniversary Commerative Half Marathon for Tullamore Harriers AC which was held on Saturday 31st August 2013 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This was a really great event and there couldn't be any fault found with any aspect of the race. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event.

This photograph is one of a set of photographs from the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon 2013. The permanent link to the full set of photographs is [http://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157635307620452/]. This set of photographs includes photographs of the start and then photographs of the finish up to the 2 HOUR finishing time.
This race celebrates the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joing routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The race today brings competitive national road racing back to The Harriers. In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 500 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.
Location Map: Start/finish and registration and race HQ was all at Tullamore Harriers AC Club Grounds: goo.gl/maps/xZ4GM (Google Streetview)
Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

This is a photograph taken at the Donadea Forest 10KM race and fun run which was held in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 12th October 2012 at 11:00. This is the 6th running of this event and the race has grown from year to year. St Kevins GAA club in Staplestown provides the venue for the start and the finish of the 10KM race is deep with the forest beside the lake and coffee shop. As a race it has grown to be a very popular event and comes in good timing for a last fast run for athletes aiming for personal bests and fast times in the forthcoming Dublin City Marathon. The race combines about 3KM of road race before entering the Forest and completing a full lap of the inner perimeter trail route of the Forest before finishing beside the Lake/Coffee Shop area in the middle of the Forest.
Event management and racing timing was provided by Precision Timing [www.precisiontiming.net/]

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was approximately 300 participants.
Weather: The race was held on a bright clear crisp autumn morning. There was a slight breeze against the participants for the firs 2.5KM on the road but the forest canopy provided shelter from the breeze. Temperatures were perfect for running.
Course: The race starts at the Stapelstown crossroads at the bog-road to Prosperous and heads north on the road on the outside of the forest. The course then takes a right turn at The Range and again follows the perimeter of the forest. The race then enters the forest here [goo.gl/maps/LFIPq] and proceeds on an anti-clockwise full loop of the inner perimeter route around the forest. This brings participants past the lake twice with the second passing bringing runners into the finish. The route overall is one which could be considered a fast course. However there are two hills in the forest which must be tackled twice. However the shelter of the forest means that the final 7KM of the race are run in a wind-sheltered environment.
Location Map: Start Area: goo.gl/maps/C7Jwo (Google Streetview) and St. Kevins GAA goo.gl/maps/2Znix (Google Streetview). The finish area is in the Forest and located beside the lake (goo.gl/maps/SViUs Google Satellite)
Refreshments Refreshments were provided to participants in St. Kevin's GAA club goo.gl/maps/2Znix

The Nichols bridgeway is one of my favorite places to shoot. High rise building, planes, clouds, people, millennium park, view of loop, everything just falls into place.
In this shot the cloud formation looks like emission from the plane that is headed towards the two prudential plaza building. Sitting at the bridgeway with ample patience in freaking cold weather resulted in this.
Hope you like it as much as I did.
It’s always hilarious when you’re able to time a prank so perfectly that the prankee spills the cereal they were holding all down the front of their shirt. The bigger the mess, the better. The best pranksters out there, though, might be our furry, bug-eyed, or even scaly...

Timing cover off following a mammoth struggle with the nut for the fan belt pulley which eventually gave in to a 44mm socket and a monsterous breaker bar.
The timing didn't work out as I planned on this shot but I still like it. The double exposure made dark eyes/nose/mouth in the midst of the red gelatine. So it looks like the skin peeling off leaving behind the red within.
Cheers.

Everybody knows that when it’s summertime, the most miserable thing ever is to be stuck in a super-hot house with no AC. When the temperature cranks up, so does your air conditioning—and your air conditioning bill, too. However, you don’t have to shell out tons of money in order to stay cool and comfortable in the hot weather. Here are some tips on how to cut your cooling costs and use your AC in the most efficient and inexpensive way possible without losing energy and money.
Window treatment
You can choose a window treatment that is both functional and fashionable. A reason you might be losing money on your AC is because cool air is slipping out of the window cracks and/or sunlight is streaming in and warming the place up. In addition to making sure your windows are kept in good condition, you may also, want to try window treatment that will block the AC from slipping out and costing you money. Instead of turning up the AC higher and higher, first check to make sure that your windows have some sort of treatment because, according to a study, window treatments can block approximately 70% of solar energy from infiltrating your home.
Clean your AC
This should be a no-brainer, but unfortunately, it is something that many people neglect to do as frequently as they should. Cleaning your air conditioning vents ensures that your machine doesn’t have to work any harder than it needs to in order to provide cool air. When the vents are clogged, it’s more difficult for your air conditioner to push air through them. A dirty air conditioner uses more energy (and costs you more cash) than a clean one.
Fans
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, if you raise your AC temperature two degrees, it will save you 14% on energy costs. However, you might be reluctant to do that in the hot weather. Instead of turning up the AC and sweltering, purchase fans that will circulate the air through your home. Keeping cool air flow moving around your house is a great way to maintain your place at a comfortable temperature without having to continuously decrease the AC temperature and spend exorbitant amounts of money.
Shade your AC
Don’t be afraid to get into gardening. If your air conditioner is by a window, planting a tree there will both shade the unit and also will be good for the environment. The US Department of Energy claims that preventing the sun from hitting your air conditioner will increase the efficiency of your air conditioner by up to 10%. A weeping willow tree, oak tree, and/or pine would be good choices for providing maximum shade.
Program your thermostat
You don’t need air conditioning blasting 24/7. Chances are, you’re at work during the day and aren’t home anyway. If you have a pet, he or she can stand to have the house a couple degrees (try the aforementioned two degrees, which will lower your costs 14%) warmer. If you purchase a thermostat that allows you to program when the AC turns on or off, that will cut your costs immensely. Why waste AC if you’re not going to be there to relax in it?
Don’t skimp on new units
Is your air conditioner getting a little old and worse for wear? Don’t be afraid to shell out for a new one—a new unit will save costs more than spending money on a deteriorating AC that uses more energy to pump out the same amount of air. Think of a new air conditioner as an investment that will pay off in the long run. If you are looking to purchase a new unit, it is best to consult with a professional, such as Bob Heinmiller, who is a reputable Orlando air conditioner company.
There’s no need to run up a huge bill just to stay comfortable. By implementing these cost-cutting tips, you’ll be able to enjoy your air conditioner without spending any more money than you need to.

We have an extensive set of photographs from the race start and the finish on our Flickr photostream set at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157688852560892
The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2.5 mile mark of the 10 mile race. There is, of course, then the reward of a long down-hill stretch after the summit. The remainder of the race is The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.
The weather at this year's race was very cold and windy. The rain managed to stay away but a very cold northerly breeze certainly made conditions cold. Whatever wind advantage there was for the runners was not experienced until the second half of the race. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and last year in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races. The 2016 event seen very suitable weather for road racing.
Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This is a photograph from the first round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 7th May 2014 at 20:00. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was positively wintry with a very cold wind in the face of runners for the 1KM and the final KM of the race.

Project: Timing
Location: Kennedyplein
Philipp Geist’s still- and video projection mingle with the facades and their means of representation. Through projecting light and images into architectural environments filled with fog, his interventions in architectural environments visualize and – at the same time - cloak the space they inhabit. Intersecting media and urban landscapes into new hybrid conditions, their experiential attraction reflect on the ephemeral and dynamic qualities of artificial consistencies.
“Timing” is a site-and time-specific work, made for GLOW and made of projected words woven into the space like a poetic carpet and at the same time, as social radar. The work will be completed by the visitors walking in the projection field.
