Tilt shift photography has always greatly intrigued me, but, since I lack the technology to do it on camera, I have to re-create the effect in my editing software.
This is only my second ever tilt-shifted photo I have uploaded to flickr (I have included the first, from about a year ago, in the comments section below for comparison) and I would be greatly interested to know what you all think!
This was part of a series of photos I took back in May of this year at the amazing Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta (about an hour north of Calgary), which is actually the world's largest natural history museum (I believe!).
It has an incredible array of exhibits and displays on the inside and is really an awesome place to visit!
And the scenery around it isn't so bad either!
It in a part of Alberta that we call the "Badlands" due to its somewhat desert like appearance and rock formation, and the day these photos was taken was absolutely amazing weather wise!
I hope you are all having an excellent Friday and looking forward to the rest of the weekend!
Shot back in 2011 when I was using a Mamiya AFDii and ZD digital back. This particular lens rig was made up of an old macro bellows with a 1948 Kodak lens mounted into a body cap. You could just get infinity focus. And you had all three movements: tilt, shift and swing.
Lots of fun but a massive rig to hand hold.

A few months ago, I rented a 24 mm tilt shift lens to do portraits of some friends, however, the night before they bailed, and I still had the lens. Fortunately, my girlfriend was willing enough to let me take some photos of her around Dallas and get something out of the lens. I never got around to doing full post on these images, however over the past few weeks I picked up some new techniques and finally found a mix of filters/layer adjustments that fit the mood of most of these photos perfectly. Lighting was all natural, occasionally a 32" gold reflector, but most of the time it was just overcast and foggy.
Mount Inasa, Nagasaki city 稲佐山. One of the top three night views in Japan. I really love going to miss this place!
View from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku taken during a work trip in 2010 and miniaturized in Photoshop.
Used a quick mask to gradually blur the back and foreground, then tweaked the saturation to make the colours look hand painted.
Worked on the city this last week. Thought it would be fun to bring the Tilt-shift lens with me. Created some interesting effects.

Tried a tilt shift effect focusing on the VW only.
The shot was taken on a 4x5 paper but because of a light leak or a reflexion on the window, I had to crop a good portion of it.

Tilt shift lenses focus on a single part of the photo and shift (blur) the surrounding area to create an optical illusion of miniaturized scenery.Tilt shift photographs create an optical illusion that makes scenes appear as if they are actually miniature models (like your uncle’s train set). The outer edges are blurred which tricks the eye into perceiving everything in the unblurred parts as miniature.
This is a modular view camera for Fuji GFX cameras. I built it using a combination of an Arca Swiss 69 rail and focus pillars with a Fuji G680 front standard. The rig is capable of mounting Fuji G680, Pentax 645, Mamiya 645 as well as standard view camera lenses from 45mm through 90mm. Front movements include swing, tilt, shift and drop. Rear movements are limited to shift and swing. The goal was to try and gain most of the movements and lens flexibility of the Cambo Arctus, without spending $4000. The Arca was not damaged in the process and can easily be reassembled using the original Arca standards, the most expensive part of the project was the sacrificial Fuji G680. Fortunately they appear from time time as-is on Ebay.
Picture taken using mechanical tilt shift and manual focus. I enjoy that as it forces me to focus on part of frame instead of entire motive - south Norway roads
