My first attempt at tilt-shift. This shot of the Manhattan section of the Triborough Bridge was taken as I took off from La Guardia Airport. Lightroom's dehaze filter worked wonders eliminating the color cast caused by the airplane window.

After a year off because of the pandemic, the National Pike Steam, Gas, and Horse Association summer show was back in full force this year. Every time I go to the show, I try to take a different camera or lens that I haven't used there before. This time, I brought a tilt-shift lens which I didn't have in years prior.

Photoshop "tilt shift" photo from my trip to Paris a year ago.

Meus primeiros passos ao Tilt-Shift.

A bit of a challenge to find a high spot to look down from, so the Cliffs overlooking the river seemed worth a try. It's unusual to see a little tug in the city reach of the river as they're usually closer to the mouth of the river where the ships are. Perhaps she was heading to the Queen's Wharf Development site to pick up a barge

this photo was taken from airplane little before landing in Athens.

Just simulating tilt shift lens so the road and cars look like mimiatours.

Thanks for looking !

Basically remove the lens from the camera and use your hand to get the tilt shift effect. Unlike a lensbaby, you get true tilt effect (i.e. the areas in focus are across the screen - sharp from the foreground to the background). All you need is a lens that has a larger imaging area than the CCD - so any 35mm lens from Nikon, Canon, Leica lens will do.

I used an old Pen FT 40mm F1.4 lens.

Tilt-Shift miniature faking is a technique whereby a picture of a life-size location or object is manipulated to give an optical illusion of a photograph of a miniature scale model. Most of this pictures are taken from a high angle to further simulate the effect of looking down on a miniature. Altering the focus of the photography in Photoshop (or similar program) simulates the shallow depth of field normally encountered with a real tilt-shift lens. This pictures are more and more seen in flickr.

In this technique inspires me to work creatively with the focus plane. I use the tilt-shift lens Nikon PC-E Nikorr 45mm f/2.8D for product photography recently. The main reason for this expensive lens is the opportunity to affecting the perspective. You can make something look bigger or smaller or you can correct convergent lines (architecture). This could be done by changing the angle of the camera with shifting the lens. The other big opportunity is (actual topic) is tilting the lens.

Tilt movements enables to tilt the plane of sharpest focus so that it no longer lies perpendicular to the lens axis. The tilt effect therefore does not necessarily increase depth of field—it just allows to customize its location to better suit their subject matter. You can find a more detailed description here www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/tilt-shift-lenses2.htm.

I choose this view as cover picture of my new picture series. The effect of interaction between sharp drawn parts and the out of focus one works best here. The sharp drawn part looks like a path starting from the middle foreground with a lead into the depth. The effect increases also the sense of texture especially at the meadow. My self-criticism is, the leading line didn't lead to the brightest part. On my next shooting I will try to shift to focus path with increasing the lens shift.

This fortress palace, whose name in Arabic means citadel, is one of the city's historical monuments and is much visited because of its history and beauty.

The building that dates from the Muslim period is located at the foot of the Gibralfaro hill, crowned by the Arab defence works to which the Alcazaba is connected by a walled passage known as the Coracha. With the Roman Theatre and the Aduana Customs Building, this special corner offers the chance to observe Roman, Arab and Renaissance culture, all within a few yards of each other.

According to Arab historians, it was built between 1057 and 1063 at the instructions of Badis, King of the Berber Taifa of Granada. Transported material was used in its construction and columns, capitals and other materials were taken from the nearby Roman Theatre.

The Almoravids in 1092 and the Almohads in 1146 reached MƔlaga. In 1279 the city was conquered by Muhammed II Ben al-Ahmar and became part of the Nasrid kingdom. The renovation of the building on its rocky base gave it a markedly Nasrid appearance. It combines its defensive purpose with the beauty characteristic of an Arab palace and is organised around rectangular patios and spaces around gardens and pools. According to the traditional architectural tenets of Granada, the rooms attempt to combine the play of light and shade that the Arab master builders achieved so well.

The building's military components make it one of the most important Muslim works in Spain today. Despite its machiolations, turrets, arrow slits and battlements, perhaps its most effective defence was its location, overlooking the city and bay.

In its day it was surrounded by a neighbourhood that no longer exists with latrines in every house and its own sewerage system, proof of the high level of civilisation achieved at the time.

It was restored several times and most recently in the 20th century, and today the building and its important archaeological legacy can be visited. Remains of the Roman walls lined with red stucco appeared and small cisterns carved into the slate and used for making garum (the fish paste made by the Romans) were found during the first archaeological dig. There is also a dungeon where Christian slave girls were locked after working during the day.

Tilt-shift photography refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras; it usually requires the use of special lenses.

In many cases, "tilt-shift photography" refers to the use of tilt and a large aperture to achieve a very shallow depth of field.wikipedia

:)

Tilt-shift photography is the art of making—or rather faking—miniature. It gives an effect that looks like the objects in the image have been shrunk to a very small size. In tilt-shift photography, a real world scene is made to look like a miniature version or a model version of it. It is done in two ways. One is using a tilt-shift lens, and the second is by using image editing tools like Photoshop. The lens is an expensive choice for achieving tilt shift photography.

This is the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) "Holiday Train", which I spotted crossing the Chicago River in December 2019. I gave the shot a tilt-shift treatment using Snapseed.

The Holiday Train is a Chicago 'L' train which traditionally runs during the winter holidays, from November to December. Six cars are traditional passenger cars adorned with seasonal decorations and bright lights. The interior of these cars are adorned with multi-color lights, red bows, garland, and red and green overhead lighting. The hand poles are transformed into inedible candy canes. Santa Claus rides on an open-air flatcar and waves to the passengers coming aboard from his sleigh.

Toying with the new tilt-shift blur feature in Photoshop CS6 (see this tutorial). The original photo seems perfectly suited for it.
