Tilt-shift photography refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras; it usually requires the use of special lenses.

In many cases, "tilt-shift photography" refers to the use of tilt and a large aperture to achieve a very shallow depth of field.wikipedia

This fortress palace, whose name in Arabic means citadel, is one of the city's historical monuments and is much visited because of its history and beauty.

The building that dates from the Muslim period is located at the foot of the Gibralfaro hill, crowned by the Arab defence works to which the Alcazaba is connected by a walled passage known as the Coracha. With the Roman Theatre and the Aduana Customs Building, this special corner offers the chance to observe Roman, Arab and Renaissance culture, all within a few yards of each other.

According to Arab historians, it was built between 1057 and 1063 at the instructions of Badis, King of the Berber Taifa of Granada. Transported material was used in its construction and columns, capitals and other materials were taken from the nearby Roman Theatre.

The Almoravids in 1092 and the Almohads in 1146 reached Málaga. In 1279 the city was conquered by Muhammed II Ben al-Ahmar and became part of the Nasrid kingdom. The renovation of the building on its rocky base gave it a markedly Nasrid appearance. It combines its defensive purpose with the beauty characteristic of an Arab palace and is organised around rectangular patios and spaces around gardens and pools. According to the traditional architectural tenets of Granada, the rooms attempt to combine the play of light and shade that the Arab master builders achieved so well.

The building's military components make it one of the most important Muslim works in Spain today. Despite its machiolations, turrets, arrow slits and battlements, perhaps its most effective defence was its location, overlooking the city and bay.

In its day it was surrounded by a neighbourhood that no longer exists with latrines in every house and its own sewerage system, proof of the high level of civilisation achieved at the time.

It was restored several times and most recently in the 20th century, and today the building and its important archaeological legacy can be visited. Remains of the Roman walls lined with red stucco appeared and small cisterns carved into the slate and used for making garum (the fish paste made by the Romans) were found during the first archaeological dig. There is also a dungeon where Christian slave girls were locked after working during the day.

Efecto miniatura con Tilt-Shift simulado.

Tilt-Shift miniature fake.

Tilt-shift photography is the art of making—or rather faking—miniature. It gives an effect that looks like the objects in the image have been shrunk to a very small size. In tilt-shift photography, a real world scene is made to look like a miniature version or a model version of it. It is done in two ways. One is using a tilt-shift lens, and the second is by using image editing tools like Photoshop. The lens is an expensive choice for achieving tilt shift photography.

Was out the other day, around Shinjuku, and took the opportunity to do some shooting with the tilt-shift Mamiya.

Bloody hard work and as you get towards low-light conditions, the ZD back is not in its element. It's a daylight camera. Closer you get to the combination of wide-open on the lens, 320-400 ISO and longer exposures the noise really starts showing.

But, this fella came out OK.

Hand-holding this beast of a camera is not easy at a slow shutter-speed.....!

Tilt shift experiment

Using your own bare hands to achieve that tilt-shift effect is really very satisfying and addictive. It works so well on the E-P1 because the sensor is really small so you can really move the average 35mm lens around for some wild effects.

Here I was going for a more subtle effect. Looks like a big bokeh lens on medium/large format.

tilt-shift, part 2

This is why I got the SX10IS - the incredible zoom! Shot this from the Eiffel Tower, and the background was distracting, so I made it a tilt-shift!

My technique is alway the same:

Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...

DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

This is the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) "Holiday Train", which I spotted crossing the Chicago River in December 2019. I gave the shot a tilt-shift treatment using Snapseed.

The Holiday Train is a Chicago 'L' train which traditionally runs during the winter holidays, from November to December. Six cars are traditional passenger cars adorned with seasonal decorations and bright lights. The interior of these cars are adorned with multi-color lights, red bows, garland, and red and green overhead lighting. The hand poles are transformed into inedible candy canes. Santa Claus rides on an open-air flatcar and waves to the passengers coming aboard from his sleigh.

Tilt shift shots produced by holding a M42 lens focused to infinity loosely in front of an eos350d, then tilting until the desired object is in focus. Thanks to Tommy Oshima for the tip! :) the results are a bit hit and miss but looks pretty cool when you get it right!

Gave tilt-shift another shot with a Tokyo skyline, after some great feedback from /r/ITookAPicture on Reddit.

This is the Shibuya shopping district as seen from the Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills. The sight from Tokyo observation decks is without compare!
