As the grass grows the task of taking photo's becomes ever more difficult. I there shot through the grass
Negotiating the undulating profile of the C&I line in northern Illinois farm county is a pair of Burlington Northern EMD SD40-2s powering eastbound BNSF double stack train 54 west of Flagg Center on the dry winter morning of February 23, 1997.
I'm posting this because I for one has never seen this behavior with this species. They are usually at waters edge, in or very near the water, just a recorded image.
Have a great day, and thank you for stopping by.
Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park, Gunnison Point
Title is from ~Audiomachine's epic Through the Darkness
A happy memory, almost unplanned. My youngest son and I spent the day driving up from Durango to Montrose, and then after dinner headed to a national park we had never been to, on a dark trail, rocky and descending into a pitch-black chasm. While the Milky Way wasn't low enough to be in view, the stars did not disappoint, and neither did the location, Gunnison Point. Having my son's help saved the night too, as he always plays "photographer's assistant" and has a great appreciation for clear starry skies.
They are not kidding when they named this Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, it's dark even in the daytime. In fact, parts of the gorge only receive 33 minutes of sunlight a day, its walls are so sheer and steep. The Gunnison River is primarily responsible for carving the canyon and the geology of this park is amazing. The streaks in the walls seen here are from pegmatite lava which flowed into cracks and hardened. The gorge features the tallest sheer cliff in all of Colorado with a sudden drop of 2,250 feet (690 m).
This is a single image, processed in Capture One Pro. The 30 seconds necessary to get enough data for the RAW file to record most details of this dark landscape also led to some minor star trails.

Walking along a stream I was surprised to see this Great Blue Heron only a few feet on the other side of tall marsh reeds. The heron made a catch and then noticed me as I stood quietly trying to focus though the reeds, before slowly backing away.

Our last shot this chase was here just east of Plains, where the tracks make an S curve between two bodies of water, the Clark Fork River on the right, and the "Smiley Slough" on the left.

On a stormy April morning, BNSF 6689 cruises west through John F. Stevens Canyon. The snowpack on the front of the locomotive is evidence of the brutal conditions at the summit of Marias Pass, which would later escalate into a full blown whiteout. Up above is the road through the canyon, evidence that there is not much room to get everything through.
We visited Gloucester Cathedral today, and had to wait to go in as there was a special service going on!
Another trip down to Caerlaverock WWT and this Green Sandpiper was feeding on the Whooper pond. Seen through the window of the Peter Scott observatory. A scarce passage migrant and Winter visitor
A beautiful moment in nature. These are the times that you just want to observe and not be seen unfortunately I think they were on to me!
Although very close to the wetland walking trail this Green Heron was blocked from view by tall marsh reeds, only visible partially as the strong winds would sway the reeds.

To sit at the front seat of someone’s life; to place them on the throne of our hearts, is a sacred privilege. One of the deepest human longings is to know that our lives have been truly witnessed, not merely another breath lost to the winds of eternity.
