This Green Heron was quite the card this morning primping and preening in between snacks.

Huntley Meadows Park

This tiny baby anole appears to have big plans.

This little tyke came into our garden one morning, entered our lounge and took my slipper for a play!

He chewed it for a bit, then displayed it as if to say ‘look at what I’ve done’!

This adult eagle was spotted near Leaf resort, Munnar in the late morning. The same tree also hosted a jungle owlet.

And for Telegraph Tuesday. HTT everybody!

This year we have been getting more snow then we have in the past few years which has made for some better winter photo opportunites. This is of a local cedar forest in out area.

Thanks for viewing and have a great day!

This sweet little bird is my spring time favorite, such a brilliant shade of blue. It is not a large bird but 5 1/2" in size and easily missed when out looking for it. But if you can keep your eye trained for the blue head you stand a good chance of spotting them. I miss seeing a lot of birds out there but I have very good luck with these buntings.

Continuing with my mountain and stream shots .....This shot taken in Nant Peris just above Beddgelert

this beautiful creature was captured at the Newport State Park located in Door County, Wisconsin; 072811

This is another of the panorama shots I took in Ireland , the River Moy was in flood ,taken early morning.

This is why one day I may leave Pentax.... I can't shot in High Sensibility... 800 was my maximum value... I hope one day they will improve the noise management on their cameras :)

I sill find this shot artistic so I shared it with you :)

The smoke from my wood stove fresh lit was lingering among the bare trees and a glowing sky. 8:36PM

never underestimate the healing power

of a moment in the garden... : )

Explore #79.

This lake marks the beginning of the truly spectacular scenery in the Enchantments. Between here and Aasgard Pass, I do not think it is an exaggeration to say that everything, in every direction, is about as stunning as it comes. Lake Viviane (6785'), with mountain goat in foreground and Prusik Peak (8040') behind, the Enchantments, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Washington Cascades.

This is what I found when I got home from my food shopping today. Needless to say the cheese sandwich I was making was minus the lettuce.

The supermarket wasn't to blame, although I could have sent a photo of it 'snail mail'. LOL

John Heinz Wildlife Refuge Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This composite was a bit of an experiment for me.

I have long seen Milky Way photos taken in close proximity to population centers.

Bogus! I'd say.

So I thought I'd take a stab at it.

Here I'm on the western outskirts of Albuquerque. I shot the landscape the way I normally would, adjusting the histogram to just peak out on the highlights. That didn't leave too much for the shadows, or the sky. Doing that alone, you would see a few stars, but not really that many.

I then reset my kit to capture the sky. To do this without causing my sensor too much grief, I partially masked off my lens so that it could only see the light pollution and higher, no direct artificial lights. What surprised me was that the Milky Way was discernable at all! In this composite, it is actually roughly 90 degrees away from the road at left leading in to Albuquerque. I did have to pull out all the tricks to make it look this clear. It's exposure and contrast are enhanced relative to the surrounding sky.

So, on the one hand, I was shocked to observe this much of the Milky Way without really "leaving town." On the other hand, this experiment confirmed the tricks that folks have to perform to create images of the Milky Way over their favorite city. They're a bit bogus, like this one. That said, it can be quite a challenge to try to piece it together. Made from 23 light frames by Starry Landscape Stacker 1.8.0. Algorithm: Mean Min Hor Noise.

Cheers!

This is the handsome male during breeding season. NJ, 2016.

This tiny butterfly is about the size of a nickel, it was seen at Blendon Woods Metropark.

I'm heading down this path, even if I have to go it alone!

This is a beast of an animal, and probably The Boss of the herd.

Managed to capture during a fantastic few hours wandering around.

Tatton Park is home to two herds of wild deer: Red and Fallow.

It is fascinating to watch them throughout the year and see the changes they experience during that time. Here are some facts about our deer and a few fun activities for you to try at home or in the classroom.

This is part of the view on 17 Mile Drive, on the Monterey Peninsula. There are tons of beaches in California, but there are also a few very beautiful rugged places like this. A little south of Monterey is Big Sur, which is definitely one of the most beautiful places on the planet and it has a rugged coastline, like this. Most days you can see a lot of seals playing and sometimes a few dolphins leaping out of the water. It’s an idyllic and very beautiful place.

This photo was taken at one of my favourite locations in Iceland, at vestrahorn. As is often the case the wind was blowing a gale but the sky was clear and the northern lights were putting on a show!

This lovely woman was making jewelry at the Maryland Renaissance Festival when I approached her and asked to take her photo. Such a lovely countenance and delightful to talk with for a bit.

This poor old building used to have another sign behind this one. The building caught fire and the back wall has collapsed. There is no roof and I doubt any floors. Salt Lake Chocolates are still in business as far as I know. This sign will be gone sooner than later. Glad I caught it.

and the tagline "Are Always Appreciated".

What do you think guys?

I had a few minutes to do this shot before the storm hits the island.

So far my best night shot I think..

This bridge is located in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve near Fayetteville, W.V. The 3030 feet long bridge stands 876 feet above the river. In 1977 when completed, it was the tallest regular car carrying bridge in the world. The bridge averages over 16,000 vehicles per day.

To an engineer, the material somewhat reveals itself by its rusty color. The bridge is made of Cor-Ten steel which was developed by United States Steel Corporation. The chemical make-up oxidizes as it ages, resulting in a layer of naturally protective material which also does not require painting. The steel was made by SSAB (Svenskt Stal AB; Swedish Steel Corporation), under license from the USS.

Visited what's left of Worlds End Garden over the weekend... It will be missed for sure...

I cannot leave here, I cannot stay

Forever haunted, more than afraid

Asphyxiate on words I would say

I'm drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue

There are no flowers, no, not this time

There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find

I'd show a smile but I'm too weak

I'd share for you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me

I cannot stay here, I cannot leave

Just like all I loved, I'm make believe

Imagined heart, I disappear

Seems... no one will appear here and make me real...

This is my first attempt at something called a “flatlay”! I’ve been wanting to try it for some time now, and decided today is the day....no Santa’s were harmed in the filming of this project, although some appear arthritic and old. That’s because they are! I love my vintage Santas, and think I’ve put them to good use.

This is called 'The Fountain Of Wealth'. When I was setting up for this shot, there were suddenly 15 kids jumping between the lit waterjets. Inside I was yelling, nooooo, please, it's not the moment. I had to take about 20 pics to blend the different parts together. It has been a hell of a job, removing the kids and matching the shifting colors of the jets.

Since I need some winter images for a proper photo calendar i looked for something worth capturing during those days when we had at least a little bit of snow.

Actually the amount of snow we had wasn’t even enough to cover the grass on this hill, so I cloned out hundreds of grass blades, which was great fun.

Not.

Japanese Itoh hybrid peonies (intersectional peonies) are a cross between tree and herbaceous peonies, offering the best traits of both: large, 8-inch, long-lasting flowers (yellows, reds, pinks, corals) on strong, 3-foot shrubby stems that don't need staking. They are extremely cold-hardy, disease-resistant, and bloom for 3–4 weeks.

Coral Sunset Intersectional Itoh Peony .

A sunset in a flower! Aptly named for its awe-inspiring transformation from a radiant, vivid coral through a range of peaches, and finally, a creamy white colour, the flower is a masterpiece at every step of this sunset, and one might argue a bloom only improves with age. Unique from other coral varieties in that it opens with the most intense coral colour and has petals that are more ruffled, which perhaps contribute to a fuller appearance. Has a lower, more compact growing habit than Coral Charm. Mass plantings are recommended as flowers at different colour stages provide a visual riot in the landscape.

Side buds are possible, extending the bloom period. A favourite of the peony garden, this outstanding peony produces intense sunset coral, semi-double blossoms with rose overtones and a fluffy deep yellow stamens in the center. The lightly fragrant flowers are long lasting in fresh bouquets. ‘Coral Sunset’ blooms early in the peony season, around late spring in Ontario It is highly prized for its exemplary plant habit. and by florist as cut flower in bouquets.

Update April 02, 2025. Now I only accept group invitation that allows all media types including VIDEOS.

This was the first track title I saw today when I opened my playlist, so Take this hammer by the Felice Brothers it is. It was a night that kept hammering opportunities my way, so it sort of fits. I just love wandering among all the rocks and pools looking for light and movement. A night spent in between the waves is a magical one.

This is a special day to count our blessings and all things that we are grateful for. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Sponge cake, soaked in a light French brandy syrup iced and decorated with meringue. Fillings with homemade custard .

Decorations consist of sugar flowers.

Finish decoration by me with fall leaves and small pumpkin and wrapped swiss chocolate turkey.

Los Angeles. California.

This Polar Bear reminds me of a dog that has been told to sit, with its hind legs splayed and its front legs together, and keeping eye contact as if awaiting the next command. Except this Polar Bear was sitting nicely because he wanted to. He knew who was the boss, and he was taking orders from nobody. I took this from a Zodiac (inflatable boat) while the bear was sitting on a stony beach on the east coast of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago. We rounded a blind corner and the bear was there, right in front of us, so this is straight off the camera.

This old building operates as a cafe and does a good trade from walkers that venture out in Ilkley. Dating back to 1700 is was built to accommodate a spa with three plunge pools. One his still in use today.

Continuing this brief series of cool sights I saw on a single morning outing to Grasslands, the park at my doorstep. These two Moose with their calves were a surprise; I tend to see moose more often in fall and winter. And last year there was considerable noise and commotion as contractors built a new bridge across the Frenchman River - resulting in many wildlife species, including moose, steering clear of the area until things settled down.

But.. they're ba-ack!

I'm so happy. They add an extra touch of wildness to the prairie landscape. Twenty-four years ago, when I first spent some extended time hanging out in this place, moose were a rare sighting. In the interim, they have arrived to occupy the valley, and other prairie locations, too; biologists are not sure why.

My theory? They find ample food and shelter here, where there are no natural predators, no hunting, and an abundance of peace and quiet. Essentially these are the same reasons I moved here full time in 2011. I'd like to think I'm smarter than the average moose. But maybe I'm not.

More to come...
