This was shot with a 2-stop neutral density filter. The camera was on a mini tripod about a foot off the ground.
Thanks for viewing!
This shot was taken two years ago near Tofino, BC. Canada. The Steller's Jay surprised us when he flew out of a tree, onto our balcony and stole a piece of my banana.
This is the only the second time that I have been able to photograph this owl, although I have seen it and tried for years. It is also nice that I have captured it awake with its eyes open.

this is just one of a bazillion beautiful scenes to behold at The Flower of Scotland. Read about it here on The SLuggle.
the title of the picture I thought should come from Scotland's Robert Burns, and it's from a lovely love poem called Composed in August which you can find here.

This magnificently graceful bird of prey is unmistakable with its reddish-brown body, angled wings and deeply forked tail. It was saved from national extinction by one of the world's longest-running protection programmes. It has now been successfully re-introduced to England and Scotland. Red kites are listed under Schedule 1 of The Wildlife and Countryside Act.

If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.
Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.
The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."
We haven't changed that much in 300,000 years of evolution.

Thank you so much for the support and kindness....always appreciated! ! Have a great rest of the week! 👻
Picked this, maybe a small thistle, not sure, but definitely not a poppy for a change!
Not been around much this week, I'll catch up the weekend, promise!
HLCOF!
My #1 target species in Sandestin this week - Amanda's pennants - were in good numbers but only in one stretch of one freshwater pond at Santa Rosa Beach. Not a pennant we have in North Georgia, so these were lifers for me a year ago down there. I've popped in & out of Flickr this week - so will be around to catch up! If I missed a shot you really want me to see - just drop me a note so I don't miss it. Hope everybody is good!

This delicate lady slipper was in a small collection of Peruvian orchids at the 64th Pacific Orchid Exposition at Fort Mason in San Francisco. It was not labeled, but it appears to be a Phragmipdeium.
If you are near San Francisco this weekend (February 27th and 28th), it is well worth exploring, and there is a large collection of orchids to buy; prices may come down on Sunday afternoon.
Happy weekend! Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

I stop by every week or two to take pics. they are lucky to be free range. The "owner" driving a 60K truck doesn't appreciate my taking pics. I guess some kind of liberal plot. they are funny. They are in a ten acre pasture and they come running to say hi when I pull up.
Beautiful slot canyon formations in Cardiac Canyon, including this one that resembles a howling dog or beast.
This was shortly before we found the little seal pup.
Blanca is focused on two crows at the water's edge and wants to charge at them ... but she wants me to give her the "go" signal. She has just looked back at me and now is trying to watch the birds and listen towards me simultaneously.
The idea of waiting until she gets a signal is completely her own idea. As far as I'm concerned, she can run after crows and gulls whenever she wants (she'll never catch one), but she insists on getting a signal first.
What she really wants is for me to run with her at the birds and she wants me as the leader to coordinate our run. I don't really like running, but sometimes I get drawn into her happy excitement and will thrill her by imitating a stalking panther. Then I suddenly break into a full run, which is as good as yelling, "CHARGE!"
The instant she sees me running, she takes off and we both launch ourselves at the crows in full gallop (she leaves me far behind at that point ...). Even though I abhor actual hunting, in this moment a shared instinct kicks in and we become strong and wild, acting with one mind and one purpose - and it is DEEPLY exhilarating!
And then I start limping because I pulled a muscle! ;)
This big, turquoise-tiled minaret was begun in 1851 by Mohammed Amin Khan, who according to legend wanted to build a minaret so high he could see all the way to Bukhara. Unfortunately, the khan dropped dead in 1855 leaving the beautifully tiled structure unfinished.
East of the minaret, beside the medressa, is the small, plain Sayid Alauddin Mausoleum, dating to 1310 when Khiva was under the Golden Horde of the Mongol empire. You might find people praying in front of the 19th-century tiled sarcophagus.
Chiwa is a city of approximately 50,000 people located in Xorazm Region, Uzbekistan. According to archaeological data, the city was established in the beginning of the Christian era. It is the former capital of Khwarezmia and the Khanate of Chiwa. Itchan Kala in Khiva was the first site in Uzbekistan to be inscribed in the World Heritage List (1991)
April 12, 2015. We had spent the afternoon at the local pub, playing pool, having a few awful beers, and eating half-frozen pies. I had my fingers crossed that sunset would turn something special on for us at this windmill, and shortly after, we were flying down the highway in a bid to catch the light before it drifted below a thick cloud teetering on the horizon.
After dodging a few emu's at high speed, we arrived at one of my most loved Australian scenes. This windmill embodies the classic Australian outback feeling better than anywhere else I've found.

The Cornfield Range is located at Vliehors on the island of Vlieland in the northwestern part of the country. The range is used for air gunnery, unguided rockets and bombing practise with both practise and live ammunitions, the only one in the Netherlands where this is possible. ( and still, I think it is a shame in this beautiful nature area) .
Live bombing is restricted to the period between 15 September and 28 February.
On 4 November 2013 the control tower of the Cornfield NATO aircraft gunnery range on Vlieland, the Netherlands got accidentally hit by about 17 projectiles during an air-to-ground strafing exercise by a F-16
The two occupants of the tower got away unharmed.

This heartmelting Harbor Seal Baby looks like it's changing its fur from baby fur to adult fur, and for some reason it started in the face. So this cutie reminds a bit on a mix of seal and racoon. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a cuter animal than this... 😁
