When you show this photo to one of your co-workers when they ask what you did on your day off.... and they sit there, speechless, and then finally look at you and say "And exactly WHAT are YOUR goals in life, because this.... THIS... is clearly not going down a good path."
Well, OK.... some people just don't get it! And me, I was pretty pleased with THIS, the results of my day off adventures. *sigh*
This is a two-fer:
The Smile on Saturday theme for today, 2/3, is portraying a first name with a picture but not letters.
And on 2/6, my FAFM posting for the letter F will be fawn.
I ran across this photo I took of a vacant house on Maine Street here in Brunswick, Maine. It was February and the dirt that gets mixed with the snow and the condition of the structure are very grungy and I added a slight amount of grunge texture to the sky. A year or so later several male students from Bowdoin College just up the road spent time making it livable and it was occupied until last year when because of the pandemic most students returned to their homes. It has since been declared unfit for habitation by the town.
The lovely and most talented Mykie joined me for this collab, thank you again for dancing in the moonlight with me
This is my favorite raptor. I call these richardsonii Merlins. The scientific name is Falco columbarius richardsonii. It has been years since I was able to photograph one.

This is a shrine set in shallow water just south of Isola del Tinetto. South of Porto Venere, Cinque Terre. I couldn’t find out much about this statue but I imagine it is some sort of sea faring shrine.
This photo is from Marado [Mara Island]. Marado represents the southernmost point in South Korean territory. The island is about 30km from the southern port of Jeju and the trip by ferry took about 15-20 minutes. The island is comparatively small (approximately 0.3 square kilometers) and you can walk around its entirety at a leisurely pace in about 90 minutes. Marado is home to about 90 residents and "…has long been known for its population being composed of strong women and docile men." (Wiki). While there, we saw traditional "haenyeo" women divers actively working at their trade of free diving to gather seafood.
This Great Blue Heron was taking off from the field near Fort Pickens located on the West end of Pensacola Beach Florida. Be safe!
This scene is very close to 'Graffiti Park' on Pittsburgh's South Side. Some 'Artists' might have painted outside the lines.
This pair of Goldcrests have been in the garden for the last few days - chasing each other around the place and, I’m hoping, looking for a place to nest. The make has a dash of orange on his crest while the female’s crest is pure yellow. These are the smallest breeding birds in Ireland. So lucky!

This is a typical Icelandic road sign, it indicates a one-lane bridge, which is the standard on bridges in Iceland. I took this picture on the road 901, which leads to Möðrudalur and is called Möðrudalsleið. Möðrudalur is the highest settlement in Iceland.
This family of Great Horned Owls was seen together after sunset, in Walnut Creek, California. Perhaps they were celebrating Spring!
The Overseer's House at Kanyaka Ruins, South of Hawker, South Australia. a blend of one Milky Way shot and around 8 light painted foreground shots, processed in Lightroom, blended in Photoshop.
This is Kiki my little powerhouse, Mexican Chihuahua x French Bulldog... she is uber attentive, vocal, super inquisitive, very protective, funny, playful and gets insulted if you don't understand her.. lol
Yes, it sure is, and this isn't some AI - generated bit of weirdness, either. This is located in what many consider to be the prettiest town in the country -- Westport, County Mayo. Can you guess what it is, and why there's a wrecked car near its base? (This image was originally posted a few years ago in black and white, so it may look familiar to some of you who have followed my photographic musings for some time.)
This flower is also known as Nigella. It was growing in my garden for the first time ever so of course I had to photograph it.
This picture from Tuscany shows the ruin of the old abbey San Galgano with the gothic church. It is a wonderful valley with a cypress decorated road to the abbey.
This photo of the Tham Kra Sae Bridge in Thailand fits perfectly with my planning for the day.
I'll be getting on a train shortly and going on a short photo trip.
However, unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to travel through such a magnificent area to such a fantastic place.
Instead, I stay in cold Germany and travel to Hamburg for two nights, where I have been wanting to take photos again for a long time.
I'm assuming that the route I'll be traveling on will give the impression of being a little more stable than this wooden construction can. However, the construction time of this viaduct was only 17 days and the craftsmen were prisoners of war of the Japanese.
By the way, this train takes around 5 hours for the entire route of around 180 km. I definitely trust Deutsche Bahn to be able to cover the 400 km to Hamburg in this time.

This is the small harbour at Fazana. I caught the boat from there to go to Brijuni Islands. These were the playground of Tito in the days of Yugoslavia. It is now Croatia.
For the second time in a week, I arose early to catch a sunrise. Success this time. I have surprised myself somewhat by first choosing a photo of the pond when my main focus was the river beyond. This was actually an afterthought when I was on my way back to the car. Only mildly tweaked in post.
