"In this incomprehensible landscape, only the sea is horizontal, and everything that is solid ground is almost perpendicular." Astolphe de Custine.
The spectacular beauty of Positano, with its houses hanging from the cliffs over the Mediterranean Sea, makes understandable that the origin of its name is attributed to numerous legends. One of them says that its foundation was due to the Greek god Poseidon, who erected it in honor of his beloved nymph Pasitea. But perhaps the most famous legend is the one that tells that the name of Positano is due to an event that took place in the 12th century, when a ship that sailed in front of its coast was immersed in a strong storm that did not allow it to move out to sea. While the sailors were trying to control the situation, they heard a voice that said in Italian "Posa, posa" ("Bring it down, bring it down"). Nobody knew where it came from, so they interpreted it as an indication of a Byzantine painting of the Virgin, that they had on board, to remain in that small town, whose inhabitants built the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in honor of the Virgin. Located next to the Spiaggia Grande (the main beach of Positano), the church is the main monument of the city and still houses in its interior the painting that gave rise to the legend.
However Positano received its name, the city was a stopover for Phoenicians and Greeks on their routes through the Mediterranean, later became a place where some Roman nobles built their villas, and reached its peak during the Middle Ages as one of the main ports of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi. Its worst years came in the mid-nineteenth century. But tourism, which began to develop in the 50s of the last century, took her out of poverty, and helped to turn the humble fishing village that was then, into the jewel of the Amalfi Coast that is now.

Thank you all for your comments, some of which were very close to solving the enigma.
This one is especially old. Don't know who they are but they came from family photos
I think this is from the 1800's

This image was taken through the windshield of a Hughes 500D helicopter about 34 years ago. I've done about all the processing possible with the original transparency. The image shows the Ruth Glacier before climate change really kicked in. The entire foreground in the image is the glacier; more than a mile wide.

This classic scene is easy to find, it is by the road off the main A9 into Dalwhinne from the south, if you look towards Drumochder you cannot fail to notice it. The bridge has been there a long time, what would its builders have thought of the railway? And this scene has been photographed around this period by some of the greats of the time, the never to be surpassed Bill Anderson has it in his posthumous book Diesels in Scotland, and he took it in snow. Les Nixon has taken it, and it also appears in Andrew Vines Diesels in the Highlands. He shot a 26 here on a northbound freight. And Andrew Vines in his caption tells of what you will see now, for there is an eleven kilo-volt power line running parallel to, and to this side of the railway, it has been there a while.Time marches, you can't mitigate for that.

This picture is doing well in many groups about the color GREEN. It was and still is a real green plant in my yard and real water drops.

This image captures the iconic modern skyline of London, dominated by The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe. The dramatic sky in the background enhances the futuristic architecture of the buildings. On the left, the distinctive, egg-shaped London City Hall seamlessly blends into the surroundings. The River Thames adds a calm, reflective quality to the scene, while the green trees provide a touch of nature amidst the urban landscape.
This is my friend, Esther. I have been asking her to be a model of mine forever! so we finally did it.

This historic ruined castle is situated on a hillside about five miles from Dufftown, it is really quite exposed. There is a car park and then it is about a fifteen minute walk to the castle. You need good footwear and the day I came it was quite muddy and the wind was very cold.
This castle is considered to have been built by Robert Cochrane an architect and dates from the 15th century. It has a troubled and turbulent history and had been a ruin for a considerable time.

This is Hest Bank, which overlooks the northern part of Morecambe Bay and is a couple of miles from the town of Morecambe, which is seen in the distance on the left. The coast here is unspoilt, with just a few houses on the seafront road. Behind them is the railway line which carries the Furness Line as well as West Coast Mainline trains. There is a very pleasant cafe here, as well as room to park your car. It is an ideal place to walk the dog.
Found this little caterpillar inside the house yesterday afternoon. Relocated it to a patio table on the deck and took some macro shots. I finally realized it was looking for something to eat, so I picked a leaf off a tree near the deck and maneuvered it under the caterpillar, who immediately began eating the leaf. I'm glad I was careful not to touch it, because I read later that these caterpillars have a venomous substance in the long black tufts that cause allergic reactions in some people.
This day-flying moth (Nannobotys commortalis) is not much larger than a rice grain, and almost invisible when roosting on sand. But as with a lot of cryptic species, up close its pattern and coloration are anything but drab. I've found several of these in the Mojave Desert this spring.
Yes, I realise this topic has already been talked over many times on our humble photo gallery. This time however, we have another big developement in front of us.
The famous Polish ban on photography had not really been in power, no matter what any person said. You were fully permitted to photograph anything you want, as long as you were on public grounds, which is a reasonable idea. All is to change now though.
My first post in this "no photo" topic has been published on 6.02.2024, when the Polish Ministry of National Defence published a draft of the ordinance containing the description of a "Photography forbidden" sign, along with many other things. This ordinance is what is required for the photo ban to be implemented in practice, as per a law published all the way back in 2022. The draft remained all that, just a draft, up until... this very day, 3.04.2025. It is now a full-blown ordinance of the allmighty Minister himself.
The published version can be seen on the official government service Dziennik Ustaw - dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU
The ordinance itself, numbered 432 can be seen here - dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU/2025/432 - contains a PDF file with the ordinance and a graphical display of the sign.
From now on, any person responsible for the security of an object of critical infrastructure (whatever that means...) will be able to hang out these legal signs and there is nothing the poor citizen can do about this, even when standing on public grounds.
*The ordinance comes into effect 14 days after its publishing, you have time until the 17th of April. For real now.*

This time it was me screwing up. Or not unscrewing up; I left the orange filter I keep on the lens on my Speed Graphic on while shooting with New55 color. Oops. I kinda like the effect this time, but it's not a mistake I intend to repeat.
This male tree bumble bee was hanging around a nest that is somewhere in the middle of the garden Japanese anemone patch. Unlike the specimen posted previously he has managed to keep his hair on. He is furrier than the workers and has some brown hairs an his abdomen whereas they are all black.
I bought this dollhouse for $4 at the thrift store seven years ago. I started remodeling it about 5 years ago and got away from it. I'm going to try to get it spruced up enough that I can use it for a Christmas house display for my Maileg mice. It is a small house so good for a table top decoration. It was really chopped up originally and I'm not planning to add back the interior dividing walls. I also removed 4 side windows and the closed the hole for the tiny staircase. I want more room to display furniture.
I removed the roof and peaked top and hoped to raise the third floor to the same height as the other 2 floors and add big windows on the front of the third floor, but decided tonight to just glue the original roof back on and just go from here. The "raise the roof" part was holding me back. I did not know how to really do it.
I used egg carton bricks to create a walk, and stone features. I also cut larger window and door openings. I have nice quality windows and a door that will fit into the larger openings. I need to paint them.
Let's hope I stick with this plan and get this in good enough shape to display next month with my Christmas mice. I don't have to finish it, just get it decent enough to use.
This was taken at Reifel Bird Sanctuary. All you who have been there know that this is not a hard shot to get. :-)
This shrine is at the corner of Jackson and Magazine streets in New Orleans. A couple weeks ago I saw a woman placing flowers at this site (before this makeshift shrine had been constucted) and I asked the woman what was up. She said a woman named Vera from the neighborhood died following Katrina and her body lay at this site for 10 days before being taken away (I seem to recall a Times-Picayune photo that captured it).
(And remember, it DIDN'T flood in this part of town).
This can be a bit long... but anyway.
I really want to thank the MMI for making this event & didn't kicked me out from the auditions that day, even when I was nervous & scared cause everything was all new to me, I found to be among friends & more experienced models.
Everyone gave their effort, but some gave their very best till the last moment being in the runway being very happy to be between them. I want to congratulate Gargantuella 3rd runner, Tara Aers 2nd runner & of course Dakota Lavarock who is the new Mrs, Model International 2020. I really won't forget our chats in auditions having fun to take away the tension.
I want to thank every Member each of the MMI from the organization, the great mentors as each one was helpful to us but the same time firm as they give great value to the competition & the rules they set. They really had much patience with each of us & also I'm grateful to the Sponsors for making it happen & be there as the audience to see us sometimes.
To my teachers from Reignn Agency of Modeling, teaching me much & even more during this time. To Richard who believed in me & to Victor who kept encouraged me to open more the fan of the creativity.
Not forgotten but as also important to my long list of thankfulness is my family, my very closest people & my friends being there in every show & sharing our opinions in the end.
Also i want to add that MMI was a good chance to learn things, meeting new people that later you will be glad to do a show together, surpassing yourself to your very limits keeping up with the demands & the rules that you still can respect & still you can create many more things keeping your mind open to alternatives of your abilities. Giving can be easy but most of all do not giving up on your own worth, no matter what.
If you are from the ones that kept reading till the end i thank you too dear one, as well us each one of you that keeps following me to my flickr here.
How about some more... hmmm... Oh yes, If you ever want to give it a try for the next MMI 2021 come aboard as well if you like to challenge yourself :)
Thank you everyone

It's like a summer dream, isn't it.
I think I could stay here for hours, it's so quiet and peaceful.
In summertime the field is full with nice summer flowers.
I always go bananas when I come here at that time.
Shooting and shooting and enjoying the moment of joy for my soul and my eyes.
Aiko had to chill down a bit today, it's 25C and he was hot.
It's always nice when he wants to chilla bit, then I can go on shooting without having a leash that destroys my photos all the time.....
What a lovely walk.
This was taken at the Flanders Field American Cemetery on Saturday (11/11/2006). The US Army Garrison Brussels Officials honored the fallen with the reading of "in Flanders Field" and the laying of wreaths at the Memorial, also read was the answer to in Flanders Field, which was called "in Flanders Now" by Edna Jacques.

This long-distance traveler has wandered east from its normal home in the Rocky Mountains and areas west. This color phase was once called the Oregon junco and has a black head and brown back.
This wallaby hard a sharp lookout for threats. He must've considered me a threat as he bounded out of the garden when he realised I was nearby.
I think this was worth getting up early for and meeting lovely Flickr Friends to go for a walk in the Dandenong Botanic Gardens. The Gardens are up in the Mountains and the fog was heavy on the way up. It was still hanging quite low throughout the morning, adding a beautiful layer hiding in and around our magnificent gumtrees. I quite liked the contrast here with the Hydrangea's from the gardens and our tall, native Eucalypts in the background.

Your comments, invites, awards and faves, of course, are well appreciated! Thank you very much!!! ; )))
Something different. No bokeh today (sometimes I've got to do it). I had to stand in this spot for a while to get the path with no people on (there are some people in the distance though), but every time I tried to get a shot, someone would walk/cycle/skateboard into my shot. Now, if I trying for bokeh people, that would be fine, but instead, I probably looked like I was lost or something just standing there. :)
Happy Thursday! The weekend is in sight! I've looking forward to some quality time with my camera. I haven't picked it up for several weeks, and with the days getting really short, it's hard to find time or the light to get anything worth it. I always seem to be using the same lens recently, which is fine, but I do think I need to take some other lenses out for a spin this weekend. Maybe The Beast (macro lens)... or I might try and see if the garden birds co-operate with my big zoom lenses. We'll see... :)
