7th December 2010 Dublin:
On the evening of Ireland's first austerity budget protestors from all different interest groups converged. People rhythmically banging pots and pan in a tribal beat. Several organizations including Eirígí, Socialist Workers Party, Sinn Fein and the 1% movement. The Parliament was protected by ranks of police, with riot squads nearby and out of site in vans so as to not inflame the already tense situation.

A man barricaded in his home was shooting at family members through the window. Sheriff Brown set out with his tactical team to flush the shooter out of the house, but not before the shooter set fire to the house with his victim, his wounded brother laying on the front porch.

When I was a kid, my favorite prehistoric non-dinosaur was the smilodon, or saber-toothed tiger. This is not a smilodon skull. It is a skunk. Who knew skunks had such pointy fangs?
One of East Midlands Trains' few 4-car Meridians, 222103, stands at Derby waiting to form the once-daily service to London St. Pancras via Melton Mowbray and Corby. Since this route is so infrequently served there would be no second chance for me to see the sights from it, so getting a seat with a good view out of the window was important. The train sat in the platform for what seemed like an age before the guard finally unlocked the doors to let us on and all the while other passengers were appearing who might have taken all the good seats on this short train.

Getting a decent shot of the actual driving teams during the competition at the FIRST Robotics Competition San Diego Regional was tricky since they were all behind a plexiglass screen.

This little guy was winning, but looked back to make sure he had a good lead. Meanwhile, his dog kept everything pointed in the right direction.
