The 1807 act of the New York State Legislature instructed the commisioners to erect "suitable and durable monuments" in the landscape to indicate the location of future streets. This monument, found in 1890 during construction of the old Madison Square Garden, marked the location of Fourth Avenue and 26th Street, as indicated by the large numerals carved on its face. The monuments' large size was meant to prevent their removal; the rough-hewn portion was buried underground. Randel initially used wooden pegs as temporary markers, but these were removed by landowners who wanted to thwart the opening of streets on their land.

We have accumulated several muebles (cabinets) for the kitchen that we've used in our various rental houses. We are using them in our new kitchen until our things in OR are shipped to CR, and I will build new cabinets for the kitchen.

We watched this sweet little baby bluebird as he fledged from the nest, and he landed right at our deck doorway. He actually flew inside the house, as we had the door open, and looked up at us! We had to carefully carry him outside and mom and dad saw him, and whisked him away. What a sweetie.
We actually had to put this dishtowel around him, and place the little guy into this birdcage with the towel wrapped around him to keep him calm, until we saw the parents, and then we gently let him loose so he'd be safe. What a cute little guy.
This is a temporary sticker ahead of the Evergreen Line Extension of the Millennium Line opening, as seen at Burrard Station.

Part of the 250th Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts
In 2018, Grayson Perry RA and his committee of fellow artists handpicked over 1,300 artworks in an array of mediums.
The Summer Exhibition included a monumental sculpture by Anish Kapoor RA in the RA courtyard, while vast new works by David Hockney RA and Joana Vasconcelos appeared in the galleries. Artists Mona Hatoum and Tal R showed alongside Royal Academicians including Wolfgang Tillmans, Mike Nelson, Tracey Emin and Rose Wylie, and Honorary Academicians Bruce Nauman and Ed Ruscha.

This is going to be my brother's room. It's currently vacant and was filled with random things such as toys and blankets. I cleaned it all up and turned in into my temporary room for the week.

Construction of an elevated roadway for the new Bay Bridge that will be used temporarily to connect Yerba Buena Island with the eastbound span of the old Bay Bridge (while a permanent connector to the new easbound bridge is built).

A temporary bus stop in downtown Tigard. The hope is that a more permanent, sheltered, and comfortable stop will eventually be put in its place.
However, there hasn't been much consideration towards pedestrian and cycle access in this project so far. They've made cross walks longer, added car lanes, and added cement dividers that make it difficult to manuver transit buses.
Construction of the new interchange at Preston Avenue South and Circle Drive has officially begun. This is one of the new temporary signalized intersections as part of the detour.
For the past three seasons I've had two nesting boxes in my back yard, within easy viewing of my desk window. Each year bluebirds have been among the lookers, but chickadees ended up with the closer box (shown in this series) and house wrens chose the other box, which was closer to the woods. Last year I moved the other box (not shown) away from the woods in hopes of discouraging the house wrens (which worked) and encouraging the bluebirds (did not work last year).
On Friday morning, SIX bluebirds showed up together to look over the real estate. I was able to capture an aerial battle at one of the boxes. If only my window had not been fogged over from the recent shower next door, I might have gotten better photos! Am posting them anyway.

I already know one thing I am doing wrong: the opening faces northeast toward the house (so I can watch the comings & goings) rather than south as bluebirds prefer. Well, so far it's been good enough for the chickadees, and they've already been checking out the boxes for the upcoming nesting season. Keep an eye on my photostream to learn how it all works out.
