Only about a kilometer from one of the most visited temples in the world of Angkor Wat lies Wat Ang Kea Sa. Wat Ang Kea Sa is one of many monasteries in predominately Buddhist Cambodia with a thriving population of young men. Over one hundred Bodhisattva (The one striving for Enlightenment) monks study the Pali language (the language of Theravada Buddhism) here while also studying the international language of English. They split their study time towards the path to enlightenment with the path to a career in their post-monk hood world. After a few years of living in the pagoda many of these men look to enter the tourism workforce thriving in Siem Reap. Speaking another language is a must in order to land a decent paying job at one of the many new four and five star hotels popping up. Alongside their traditional orange robes they reveal a somewhat non-traditional view of tattooed arms with cell phones clipped to their robes and a partially divided life they will live. While Buddhism will probably play a prominent role in their future lives, their time at the pagoda and their time in the robes is short lived.
colorado was devastated by floods in late september. we lost our home and shop. this is our temporary house/shop location here in estes park. sweet pad, but very limited on shop space. gotta do whatcha gotta do.
The Landmark Mall opened in 1965 as an outdoor shopping center, and was enclosed in 1990. In 2017, the mall closed with plans to demolish the mall structure and build a lifestyle center with Sears and Macy's as anchors. Shortly before the mall closed, Macy's announced their store would close, and the Macy's store later became a temporary homeless shelter. Sears closed in 2020, and plans were announced in 2021 to demolish the mall to build a hospital.
After the mall closed, the space was used to film Wonder Woman 1984.

Cars are allowed to drive on some parts of the Washington Coast. It always seemed odd to me. We were far from most the cars, except for the police car that drove past us on patrol. When we had first arrived, we were walking in a place with many cars. One car honked at my daughter and dog as if to say get out of the road... only there was no road and the car had the entire beach to go around them:) I love that with each high tide the tracks are erased.
Great streets make great cities.
Swanston Street, our city’s spine, is of utmost importance to the people of Melbourne; our residents, workers and visitors. In the mid 1990s, the City of Melbourne embarked on a renaissance of Swanston Street civic spaces, beginning with reduced traffic, the redevelopment of City Square and Federation Square.
We are now in the final stages of this renaissance, transforming Swanston Street with integrated tram stops, bicycle routes and a pedestrian thoroughfare providing universal access for all users.
By the end of 2012, our plan is for:
four major new public spaces – outside the City Square, Bourke Street Mall, State Library and Franklin Street/RMIT,
universally-accessible tram stops,
a bike lane, and
new lighting, street furniture flower beds and public art.
The $26.5M project is a significant investment in the future growth of Melbourne, particularly in the northern part of the CBD.
Works between La Trobe and Little Lonsdale Streets will begin on 21 May and be completed by the end of 2011. This will involve the commencement of works to create a new platform tram stop in front of the State Library, tram tracks lowered and granite and bluestone pavement extended to the platform edge. Traffic changes will occur to Swanston Street from Latrobe Street to Flinders from midnight 20 May.
The first stage of works will commence on the evening of the 20 May 2011. This is confined to the block between Latrobe Street and Little Lonsdale Street. The works here are due for completion at the end of 2011.

This is the temporary cuffin of a child from the Bara ethnic group.
According to the Famadihana tradition, the bodies of the dead are put into a temporary tomb, then after a few years a ceremony takes place and they are transferred into a definitive tomb in a much more inaccessible place.
This must be the first half of the 1950s, and the wooden building is "temporary" (though they stood for many years) classroom accommodation at Gainsborough's Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. This building was used for lessons in Latin, French, German & Biology. I am told that at the time, the teachers who presided over this domain were Messrs. Walsh, Large and Gartside-Bagnall.
Despite this being a good twenty years before I attended the same school, the location was instantly recognisable to me - it is that Scots Pine Tree, you see. When I was there (1973-1980), it was still in place, when I last visited the school grounds (2005) it was still there, and a glance at Google Earth confirms that it is still healthily growing in the same spot.
The classroom is long gone, though: when I started here in September 1973, a modern prefabricated classroom had taken its place. It had four rooms in it - near the tree was Room 12 - Music, and nearer the school was Room 11 (Maths). The Portakabin was quite long, stretching from near the tree back to within say 15 feet of the School building proper. Between rooms 11 and 12 was the Lower Sixth Common Room, and a tiny room, about 8 feet square, which was the careers office.
In 1973, the newer building looked about 3 or 4 years old. When I left in 1980, it was still there, though it is no longer in existance.
For me, Room 11 will always be associated with interminably long double Maths lessons with "Dickie" Henderson - I was never more than average at maths until it just sort of "clicked" when I was at University - and Room 12 with Music lessons with "Bill" Snowley.

Alta Vista is a small desert community located approximately 23 miles northeast of the city of Lancaster. The community is comprised of about three hundred dwellings including 1970's era houses, trailers, temporary make-shift shelters built from plywood, camper shells sitting on the beds of rusted out, broken down trucks. The residents are people who, by choice or circumstance, live on the fringe of society: survivalist, retirees on fix incomes, migrant farm workers, anti-government types, consipiracy theorists, people with a "past".
The entertainment center of Alta Hista and High Vista is the "Wing and a Prayer" bar and grill. The business sign for the establishment is an actual Cessna airplane crashed into the roof of the building. In it's hayday, Wing and a Prayer was a watering hole for test pilots, aviation luminaries from nearby EAFB, and aviation enthusiast throughout the Valley. Today, it's a hang-out for locals, bikers, off-roaders, and ocassional tourist or film crew.
This past weekend, I noticed about 25 motocycles parked outside. I stopped to take some photos as I have done before. Except this time, instead of the normal crowd of accountants, lawyers, doctors, and other weekend road warriors showing off their $30,000 custom bikes, I encountered a genuine motocycle "club". And, the leader of the club was not happy to see me snapping photos of his member's rides. He and four of his friends "invited" me into the backroom of the bar and asked me if I was Five-O. What?! I protested. "Do I look like law enforcement?" "If you're not ATF, then why are you taking photos of our bikes?" he asked. "Look, I'm just a goofball with a camera. Me and my mule, we like taking photos of shiny stuff" I said.
After a brief explanation about the adventures of Ferris the roaming mule, the bikers seemed to relax a bit. But, they still stood over my shoulder and made me delete any photos that showed license plate numbers or other identifying marks on their bikes. Before leaving, I asked the guy in the photo if I could get a picture of Ferris on his head. I said, it would make a hell of a good story to take back to his other mule friends. The biker said, "Hell No." I was disappointed, but also happy I didn't have to get into a tussle over my camera (or Ferris). Although, I'm afraid Ferris would have had to take one for the team if things got sketchy. But, I couldn't give up the camera as I would have had to answer to the Mrs. And, some lame excuse about a motocycle gang wasn't going to get me out of hot water if I lost her photos of our kids at their soccer game.
Citi Summer Streets and DOT Art presented illustrator Julia Rothman’s temporary signage project on street light poles at each rest stop along the event route, starting at the Central Park Rest Stop on 71st Street and Park Avenue. Rothman’s imagery was inspired by event runners, cyclists, musicians, people doing yoga, playing basketball, jumping rope and more. The signs depicted the opposite of many street signs that are proscriptive: ‘No Standing;’ ‘Do not cross;’ and ‘Do not Honk,’ and instead encouraged pedestrians to do something. Rothman and her frequent collaborator, writer Joshua David Stein, used an idiomatic formula, such as, “Make Like a memory and jog,” to create playful calls to action. Each sign was produced at the DOT Sign Shop in Maspeth, Queens and installed by DOT Borough Engineers. The 60 signs were installed throughout the month of August 2017.
