A neat row of NXP HC373 tri-state Octal latches between the selection buttons and the keyboard buttons.
Presumably, these are used to store/latch the button state when a button is pressed, and are then scanned by the microprocessor. The encoders are also buttons, so I'm not sure if the lines going up to the encoders are for the encoder values, the button clicks, or both.
www.mouser.com/ds/2/302/74AHC_AHCT373_2-63315.pdf
In either case, latches are commonly used to store states and to debounce a button circuit.

Nice thick steel panel for mounting the encoders. This makes it easier to remove the top panel without scratching things up, and also lets the whole thing take more abuse while not requiring the top panel be made of thicker material. Plus, it just looks nicer not to have the nuts showing through the top panel.

Nords are incredible. This model, the Electro, celebrates and recreates the sounds of vintage pianos we love: Clavinets, Wurlis, and the ilk. A great stage instrument, we love the built in effects of the Electro 73 if we need any of the above, but different.

A DIY audio electronics development platform. Very easy to plug things in and out of the breadboards and Arduino (duemilanove). Seeed Studio oscilloscope has proven to be a worthy tool. Now cooking: an arduino synthesizer, based on some simple waveform tables, homemade 8-bit DAC and bitwise modulation. Basically same as this but now much neater. Audio and video demos coming up, soon maybe... Here's an old demo, this one sounds roughly the same.
