Completed as part of the Bedroom Cassette Masters project. I was asked to imagine a series of seventies-era magazines aimed at young men seriously into synthesizers and electronic organs which would all betray their sexist origins by their covers!

I went to my friends studio yesterday to do some work , and we figured ... why not line them up? I fully realize we're both synth geeks.

Added an additional case and joiners. This allows the cases to be connected in a very ergonomic way.

Hear it: youtu.be/W4JSOEWcdKc

Yet another Auduino. 6th knob controls arpeggiator. Just a 'uno' and some knobs and a switch. Works amazingly well though, awesome palette of sounds.

More than thirty years before Bob Moog conceived of the synthesizer as we know it today, Friedrich Trautwein developed his Trautonium, a highly complex, monophonic electronic musical instrument.

The pitch is "selected" via a string that is pressed against a metal bar and, in essence, works like a ribbon controller.

Although you may not be familiar with this fascinating "pre-synth", chances are that you've already heard some of the sounds it is capable of producing: The bird sounds in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 movie, "The Birds", were created by Trautonium virtuoso, Oskar Sala.

Jürgen Hiller has been building and repairing Trautoniums for more than twenty years. The one you see above is being custom-built for a customer and includes an unusual percussive module labeled "Schlagwerk" (German for "drum mechanism").

To hear what kind of sounds this fascinating instrument produces, check out these Trautonium-featuring videos on YouTube. Oskar Sala's "Canon Caprice II" is a great starting point.

The 97-key (!!) Beilfuss Step Synthesizer

I shot this for the Macro Mondays group theme of Musical Instruments: 23/05/2011.

This wonderful little electronic device is called a Stylophone! It was invented in the late sixties and produced until the mid seventies! The, err, synthesizer, was promoted by no other than Rolf Harris, who released a number of play along records, and appeared in commercials advocating its use.

I'm not sure the noise it produces can be called music, but as you can see below from the operating instructions, it claims to be the greatest little instrument of the century!

Who am I to disagree? :)
