Ayer Salva me hizo el primer regalo de navidad: me ha prestado su PowerMac G4 hasta que yo me compre el iMac, con lo que oficialmente soy una switcher.

Kellet XO-60 Helicopter
The XO-60 represents the final evolution of the Autogiro
before it became obsolete. In 1943, Kellet produced one
Xo-60 and the six YO-60s for Army Air Forces evaluation.
The XO-60's slow speed and almost vertical takeoff and
landing ability made it seem ideal for military observation
duty. However, the arrival of the Sikorsky R-4 helicopter,
and the XO-60's inability to hover, limited payload, and
ground resonance problems, kept the experimental
aircraft from production.
Kellet equipped the XO-60 with a jump takeoff clutch,
which allowed the engine to spin up the rotor before takeoff.
The pilot then set collective pitch and caused the aircraft to
lift nearly vertically, while the clutch switched power to the
tractor propeller to pull the aircraft forward in autorotation.
However, jump takeoffs and near-vertical landings were
difficult maneuvers and resulted in several accidents.
Rotor diameter: 12.8 m (42 ft)
Length: 6.6 m (21ft 8 in)
Height: 3.4 m (11 ft 1 in)
Weight, empty: 889 kg (1,960 lb)
Weight, gross: 1,193 kg (2,640)
Top Speed: 204 km/h (127 mph)
Engine: Jacobs R-915-3, 330 hp
Manufacturer: Kellet Autogiro Corp, Philadelphia, PA., 1943
After I waited for the bridge to lift and let a tugboat pass through, I asked the operator if I could have a look inside his control booth. His left hand is pushing down the dead-man switch. The bridge, constructed in 1931, is listed by the city as a heritage property.

I used a small screw-eye to act as the hi-beam switch (which had sheared off at some point). I need to find a nice cover for it.
Shackleton Barracks was abandoned by the MOD in 2008 after a history dating back to 1941 when it was constructed for the RAF Coastal Command. The airfield was in continuous use by the RAF and Royal Navy, and in 1963 the main runway was extended to accommodate a V-bomber Operation Readiness Platform. In 1971 the airfield was handed over to the army who needed real estate in Northern Ireland to accommodate the thousands of troops deployed under Operation Banner and for the newly formed Ulster Defence Regiment. In 2003 the barracks was the HQ for 8 Infantry Brigade until its closure in 2008.
Most images are from a visit to North Camp in the summer of 2016 when the site effectively lay empty.
