NS local V83 is switching the team tracks at Waynesboro. Covered hoppers loaded with plastic pellets are transferred to trucks here.
CNW RS-3 1554 has finished its work for the day and it is returning from the Winona Levee to the CNW Yard in Winona, MN. It is about to pass under the CNW mainline bridge. Mike E. Crowe ventured up onto the steel bridge that crosses the switching lead to take the photo. By this time, the CNW trackage up the embankment and across the Mississippi River was largely out of use. Taken Feb 2, 1977.
A sunny afternoon in the quaint border town of Fort Erie, Ontario finds CN 2100 (née CNW 8553) sitting on the once busy shop track. Today, Ft. Erie is all but a shadow of it's former self, and the vintage switch lock is one of the few reminders from the once bustling yard.

L&C 2369 lead #12 today from Richburg to the Chester Industrial park, seen here near Orrs, SC.
They had a fairly sizable train both ways, but made good time getting back to the NS interchange.
Wrecked CSX AC4400 #72 arrived at Mid-America Car in Kansas City a few days ago & this morning, I photographed it being switched into the facility by MAC's SW1 #82. Two other wreck-damaged units that came in with it were CEFX AC44 #1026 and CSX GEVO #5348. I'm not sure exactly where the wreck occurred, but it was on the KCS in Louisiana.

A local picks up a string of hoppers from an industry. Unfortunately, due to the location of the switch and the length of the train, the north switch at Brighton is blocked, preventing the coal empty on the siding from being able to continue north.

After completing a special passenger excursion to Cascade Canyon, Denver & Rio Grande Western Consolidation #340 takes a turn acting as the Durango Yard Switcher, helping to assemble the consist for a wedding charter that would take place the following day. In this early evening shot, the little, 1881-vintage C-19 is seen picking up a couple of coaches that will be part of the special train. Although a diesel switcher is available, the steam locomotives here are often pressed into service as yard switchers after they return from their daily excursions, most of the time just to reposition existing consists so they are ready for service the following day.
This image was captured in June of 2026, and features Denver & Rio Grande Western C-19 #340, which was visiting from Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. At the time of this photo, the locomotive had just emerged from a 2-year long contract overhaul in the shops of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Prior to shipping her back to her California home, her owners consented to allow her to participate in a small number of passenger trips and photo shoots, so that narrow-gauge fans from around the country could see and photograph this engine in the mountains of Colorado.
The north end of the Iowa Northern at Manly seemed to sleep all day and come out at night. Sure enough, when I checked the yard as the sun set there were two crews on duty. This pair of handsome Geeps was moving cars from the yard to the industries adjacent to the yard. Shortly after, I would miss a nice last light shot of them working the track closest to Highway 65 by a minute or two, it still stings a little. November 11, 2024.
One of McGill's brand new Yutong E12's leaving Braehead on a 26 service to Nethercraigs. McGill's have an order for 55 Yutong E12 electric buses (plus one ADL/BYD E200EV) with I5001 (SG71 MXH) one of the first to enter service.
Fully Charged Live 2021 (aka Fully Charged Outside) was the latest event to be held at the Farnborough International site in Farnborough, Hants. The three-day event hosted a huge selection of electric vehicles including two PSV products. There was also an internal Park & Ride bus service operating using 8 buses over the course of the event with the addition of an occasional trip to Farnborough (Main) railway station.
I visited on the overcast Saturday and returned on the sunny Sunday. For the record, buses seen were:

The Longmont Switch, with BNSF SD70MAC No. 9646 in the lead, switches the East Yard in Longmont CO, with quite the colorful consist! Including 2 SD70MACs, a GP39-2, a Dash 9 & Gevo, and a Cascade Green GP39-2!
