Chimney Swifts are among the most aerial of birds, flying almost constantly except when roosting overnight and nesting. When they do come to rest, they never sit on perches like most birds. Their long claws are suited only for clinging to the walls of chimneys and other vertical surfaces.

Still up very high but just to illustrate the point that they're here.
We watch out for the arrival of our local swifts from about the 3rd week of April. This year they finally arrived on Monday evening.
Summers on the way.
SF03ACJ was a Volvo B7R / Plaxton Profile C55F purchased new by Allander of Milngavie as their fleetnumber AT62 in March 2003. It then passed to North Dorset Coaches in Poole before reaching Johnson Transport of Brae, where it became J400JFJ for a spell. It returned to its original plate on disposal to DA Coaches of South Uist bfore joining Simpson's of Rosehearty, but quickly moved on to Swift Coaches of Barrhead.
This was the first time that I have observed Swifts mating. It is something they do whilst flying and it was great fun trying to capture this through the camera lens. I haven't seen it happen that often and there appears to be a slight change in the flying of the two birds which may indicate that they about to mate. Then it is just a simple matter of following the birds hoping that then don't fly behind a building, fly too far away or any of the other many issues that can arise.

Before anybody calls me out here, let me make perfectly clear...
YES...this IS a night photograph!
It was taken about two hours after sunset, but between the snow on the ground, the low clouds, the strong ambient light from the surrounding areas, and the falling slow, it was so bright it felt like daytime. I mean, from where the cameras is, there's not a light source for hundreds of yards in any direction, and this was still only a 13 second exposure...at f/16 on ISO 200. To night shooters who typically shoot at f/5.6, that translates to about a second and a half at f/5.6. You get the picture...it was bright out there!
Moonless night, distant ambient sodium & mercury vapor light. One piece of hated graffiti cloned off the building.

Rainy days are here to stay and the subjects of my delight are in a different cycle of life. Even if they were around, nothing much could be done with the lens in this gloomy weather. As they say, the show must go on. Hence, I have to fall back to the archives.

Making a Taylor Swift graphic after a long time. Recently watched the "Mine" music video, really liked it even though I didn't like the song. LOVE the dress she is wearing here, I changed the color and I actually like this color more than the original violet! :D

Swift, because it's her lyrics. Swift, because this balloon was swiftly popped with those needles after this picture was taken. A form of release. A form of letting go.
