Before anybody calls me out here, let me make perfectly clear...

YES...this IS a night photograph!

It was taken about two hours after sunset, but between the snow on the ground, the low clouds, the strong ambient light from the surrounding areas, and the falling slow, it was so bright it felt like daytime. I mean, from where the cameras is, there's not a light source for hundreds of yards in any direction, and this was still only a 13 second exposure...at f/16 on ISO 200. To night shooters who typically shoot at f/5.6, that translates to about a second and a half at f/5.6. You get the picture...it was bright out there!

Moonless night, distant ambient sodium & mercury vapor light. One piece of hated graffiti cloned off the building.

Just how difficult is it to capture one of these birds in fast flight?

Nice to see so many of these out feeding in the park.

The Hants & Sussex fleet during the late 1980s included a number of former London Country and London Transport AEC Swifts and AEC Merlins. Seen here at Emsworth depot in June 1989 is DPD 502J an MCW bodied AEC Swift 4MP2R new in July 1971 as London Country SMS502. This spent a number of years in use airside at Gatwick Airport with Gatwick Handling. To the right is AML 80H a Park Royal bodied AEC Swift 4MP2R which had been new in April 1970 as London Transport SMS80.

R974XVM was a Volvo B10M-55 / Alexander PS Type B49F new to Stagecoach Manchester (974) in November 1997. It was then transferred to Stagecoach Highland as their number 20974. On disposal it was acquired by McColl's Coaches and repainted white, but moved on quickly (or should it be SWIFTLY! ) to Swift Coaches in Barrhead. Thanks as always to Andy Campbell for his help.

Chimney Swifts are among the most aerial of birds, flying almost constantly except when roosting overnight and nesting. When they do come to rest, they never sit on perches like most birds. Their long claws are suited only for clinging to the walls of chimneys and other vertical surfaces.

Rainy days are here to stay and the subjects of my delight are in a different cycle of life. Even if they were around, nothing much could be done with the lens in this gloomy weather. As they say, the show must go on. Hence, I have to fall back to the archives.

Here is Small Branded Swift (Pelopidas mathias) butterfly.

Thanks for your visit.

Making a Taylor Swift graphic after a long time. Recently watched the "Mine" music video, really liked it even though I didn't like the song. LOVE the dress she is wearing here, I changed the color and I actually like this color more than the original violet! :D

I am getting more and more obsessed with brushes! With photoshop, you can do so many wonderful things with brushes! It's just amazing!

Swift, because it's her lyrics. Swift, because this balloon was swiftly popped with those needles after this picture was taken. A form of release. A form of letting go.

Taylor Swift is so pretty in this picture!

I have had a couple of goals regarding northeast Kansas dragonflies the past few years. I had species I wanted to find (always a list that is updated after a success) and also wanted to find any of the Spreadwing Damselfly species in Miami County. After dipping on two of the species on a trip to Cherokee County earlier in the year, I made a trip back to Cherokee County again.

I spent lots of time walking the grass area of Shoal Creek Wildlife Area and had a few awesome species. With Eastern Ringtails and Cobra Clubtails easily visible from Schermerhorn Park on the north side of the river with the family fisherman, tubers, and simmers I was happy to find a few only on the other side of the river. A single Swift Setwing was among the new species.
