The Kancamagus Highway takes you through a path cut through the White Mountain National Forest, with breathtaking views of the White Mountains, the Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge. I'm lucky enough to live just a few miles away.

Dehradun bound Shatabdi from New Delhi accelerates through Dhandera after its scheduled halt at Roorkee. At the helm is offlink from Gomoh, a WAP7.
I used to frequently photograph this train during my railfanning sessions in Roorkee, with Dhandera station being my starting point. I started my journey of capturing trains, from this very place.
This particular shot was taken when I returned to Roorkee for my convocation, two months after bidding farewell to the place. The experience was nostalgic, evoking memories of the magic from the old days. It definitely warrants another trip to this section.

Swifts breed in the hotel where I work. This year we have 20 or so pairs. Last year by mid June because of wet weather they abandoned the nests and left. This makes this year a little special.
Swifts are my favorite birds. After fledging it is believed that they stay in the air continuously for 3 years. Even when they do land it is only for breeding. They are amazing.
Still up very high but just to illustrate the point that they're here.
We watch out for the arrival of our local swifts from about the 3rd week of April. This year they finally arrived on Monday evening.
Summers on the way.

SF03ACJ was a Volvo B7R / Plaxton Profile C55F purchased new by Allander of Milngavie as their fleetnumber AT62 in March 2003. It then passed to North Dorset Coaches in Poole before reaching Johnson Transport of Brae, where it became J400JFJ for a spell. It returned to its original plate on disposal to DA Coaches of South Uist bfore joining Simpson's of Rosehearty, but quickly moved on to Swift Coaches of Barrhead.
Bringing a small cast iron was a bit of extra weight, but also worth it when you only had to pack it in for 4 miles of trail.
They are back and I enjoyed last evening with them.

The Hants & Sussex fleet during the late 1980s included a number of former London Country and London Transport AEC Swifts and AEC Merlins. Seen here at Emsworth depot in June 1989 is DPD 502J an MCW bodied AEC Swift 4MP2R new in July 1971 as London Country SMS502. This spent a number of years in use airside at Gatwick Airport with Gatwick Handling. To the right is AML 80H a Park Royal bodied AEC Swift 4MP2R which had been new in April 1970 as London Transport SMS80.
