Young Swift Fox, photographed one afternoon last summer. There were only a few quick moments where one of them looked at me, when hearing my (quiet mode) shutter click. They were very curious of everything around them and it was an unforgettable experience to watch them play together and explore their den area.

May sound like an exotic location but actually just a little slice of land amid an industrial estate known as Swift Valley Park. Rugby, Warwickshire.

The first generation of the Swift started life in Europe in 1983 as Suzuki SA310. It was built in this form until a facelift in 1986. In 1988 it was replaced by the second generation Swift.

This is the female of the other swift fox I posted. It had been raining and snowing the morning we were there and found it rather cute that her whiskers were slicked into a mustache. View it large you will see what I mean.

Sorry I haven't been a very good Flickr citizen of late, but between my hip and the sciatica, sitting for any length of time has been rather excruciating at best. I will be visiting your photos just not as quickly as I usually do.

This immature Swift has been banging on the nest box to try to displace the resident adults. Shown here, it bumps its head, rights itself, flies away and returns for another go...

I had taken the 135mm f/1.8 lens with me to try to get photos of swallows feeding inside the barn. That allowed ridiculously fast shutter speed, but the crop was severe. Upscaled with Topaz Gigapixel.

One from the archives for a change. Not that good a picture I'm afraid, but one I've had several goes at scanning over the years and even now, it's barely acceptable. It was taken at Brewer's premises in Caerau, South Wales and shows MBO 518F which was one of a quartet (or at least a trio?) of ex Cardiff Corporation AEC Swifts the AEC loving operator bought and ran. From memory, the picture was taken circa 1980. Bodywork was by Alexander to one of their 'W Type' variants.

For someone like me with a fanatical appreciation of nearly all things AEC, AE & FR Brewer were a pinnacle amongst independent operators. Their vehicles wore this distinctive livery (copied also by nearby Leyland loving Creamline) and were always seemingly well turned out. Unfortunately within only a handful of years, a slow but steady decline set in as the company underwent several changes before eventually fading away.

Taylor Swift - American Music Awards - 21.11.10

This Suzuki Swift with small license plates catched my eye. It couldn't be a US-model as this generation of the Swift was not sold there. But in the end I could find the dealer from the sign in the back. It was sold by a dealer from Willemstad, Curaçao and imported in the Netherlands in 2008.

Taylor Swift performed at Scottrade Center on September 29, 2015. Haim and Vance Joy opened the show.

The Swift was a famous "Airship" class air racing 'plane. This class were unlimited in engine power and other design criteria and intended for stratospheric race courses. The competitors were launched and recovered from large airships. These also functioned as pit-stops, with arms to grapple the aircraft into hangars under the gas envelope.

Lacking landing gear helped to make the aircraft lighter and faster. With the Swift, this was carried to extremes. The cockpit featured no instruments, in order to save weight. Heat from the aeroplane's engines could be felt through the cockpit seat and throttle adjustments were made on this basis. It is believed that this is where the expression "Flying by the seat of your pants." originates.

This historic mansion, constructed at 4500 S. Michigan Avenue in 1892, was my favorite stop on today's Open House Chicago adventure. It is currently home of the Inner City Youth and Adult Foundation, which provides support and transitional housing to individuals who have a troubled past and are trying to make changes to better themselves. After the plant closed in 1971, the place was heaven for graffiti taggers, a plot of urban wilderness routinely explored by teenagers and photographers... however in the next few years, it may change that.

Pallid swift, Apus pallidus. 3 April 2022. Tel Aviv, Israel.

I appreciate the difficulties of separating pallid swifts from common swifts (Apus apus) in the field. This is one of the few sharp photographs I have. I had excellent views of them and after discussions with a local birder concluded that they are pallid swifts rather than common. I've also got some heavily cropped versions of these swifts that, whilst grainy, clearly show the dark eye patch and pale throat that is indicative of pallid swift.
