Chimney Swifts are among the most aerial of birds, flying almost constantly except when roosting overnight and nesting. When they do come to rest, they never sit on perches like most birds. Their long claws are suited only for clinging to the walls of chimneys and other vertical surfaces.
Rainy days are here to stay and the subjects of my delight are in a different cycle of life. Even if they were around, nothing much could be done with the lens in this gloomy weather.As they say, the show must go on. Hence, I have to fall back to the archives.

This swift, a bird that never comes to the ground, was the victim of Nana the cat, who sat on a wall and plucked him out of the air.
I hope this bird will survive.
Making a Taylor Swift graphic after a long time. Recently watched the "Mine" music video, really liked it even though I didn't like the song. LOVE the dress she is wearing here, I changed the color and I actually like this color more than the original violet! :D
I am getting more and more obsessed with brushes! With photoshop, you can do so many wonderful things with brushes! It's just amazing!

When I assisted a licensed rehabilitator a couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of helping with nestling chimney swifts. I fell in love, and the chimney swift "swiftly" became my favorite bird. (In this shot, the swifts are not yet flying but made their way up out of the "nest" and are now characteristically clinging. See below.)
I post this now to ask: Is everyone watching this chimney swift nestcam? watch.birds.cornell.edu/nestcams/camera/view?cameraID=C10.... Four eggs and counting! The birds typically return for the night around 8:45.
I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but these birds really need our help, as their numbers are in decline. Since I have a metal fireplace, my goal is to build my own chimney swift tower by next breeding season and host my own nestcam!

I have had a couple of goals regarding northeast Kansas dragonflies the past few years. I had species I wanted to find (always a list that is updated after a success) and also wanted to find any of the Spreadwing Damselfly species in Miami County. After dipping on two of the species on a trip to Cherokee County earlier in the year, I made a trip back to Cherokee County again.
I spent lots of time walking the grass area of Shoal Creek Wildlife Area and had a few awesome species. With Eastern Ringtails and Cobra Clubtails easily visible from Schermerhorn Park on the north side of the river with the family fisherman, tubers, and simmers I was happy to find a few only on the other side of the river. A single Swift Setwing was among the new species.
Swift Shore currently employed as a Guard vessel for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm, under construction in the Moray Firth.
The Skokie Swift turned 50 this month and to help celebrate the CTA used the 4000 series cars on the line. The event was well attended and the CTA and volunteers did a great job with the celebration.
