The multinational exercise, which involves many NATO partners, is held twice a year in the spring and autumn, will involve 22 naval units and around 52 fixed wing aircraft.
Countries taking part in the maritime part of Joint Warrior are the UK, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Belgium, Poland, Estonia and Latvia, with the US Navyâs Commander Destroyer Squadron 26 assuming overall command of the task group.
Coordinating events will be around 150 additional military personnel, many of them Reservists, who will operate from HM Naval Base Clyde during the fortnight.
Exercise Joint Warrior provides all three UK Armed Services, and invited allied nations, with the opportunity to hone the vital skills needed to fight and win on todayâs battlefield.
Military skills practiced will include: anti-submarine warfare; anti-surface warfare; mine countermeasures; live firing; counter-smuggling and counter-insurgency; electronic warfare; and logistics support.
Over the two-week period, the exercise will develop from an initial period of military and political tension into simulated war fighting and potentially state on state hostilities. Key to Joint Warrior is the opportunity to practice and improve the tactics, techniques and procedures required of the Armed Forces.
Visiting Glasgow ahead of the exercise will be Danish vessels HDMS Peter Willemoes and HDMS Hvidbjoernen, while HM Naval Base Clyde will host 13 other ships from Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, Poland, Germany, Estonia and Latvia.

The Big Lunch and Volunteer Now help bring communities closer together
CHAMPIONING, volunteering and community spirit was on the menu when The Big Lunch and Volunteer Now joined local community organisations across County Antrim at The Braid in Ballymena for lunch this week.
Speaking at the event, Wendy Osborne OBE, Chief Executive, Volunteer Now said; “Volunteer Now is delighted to support The Big Lunch as part of Volunteers’ Week 1 – 7 June. Volunteers Week is about celebrating and thanking the many thousands of volunteers who are local heroes in our communities.
“Hundreds of volunteer involving organisations, from grass roots community groups to large charities take part in the Week to raise the profile of their volunteers and the valuable work they do by hosting presentations, celebrations and by simply getting together to celebrate volunteering.
“Having a Big Lunch is one way neighbours and local communities can come together through a simple act of community, friendship and fun and events like these can help encourage more volunteering in your area and even start good local conversations about Time Banking. Deputy Mayor of Ballymena, Robin Cherry MBE, said; “I am very impressed by the enthusiasm of both Volunteer Now and The Big Lunch.
“We at Ballymena Borough Council regard community as a priority, and I personally believe volunteers are the salt of the earth. I would seriously encourage all those within the borough to get involved in the Big Lunch and get to know your neighbour.”
The Big Lunch is an initiative led by the Eden Project, funded by BIG Lottery Fund and supported by Mastercard, Kingsmill and ASDA. It can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full-blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.
The Big Lunch representative in Northern Ireland, Grainne McCloskey said; “We are encouraging people across the UK to get together in their local area and celebrate their community or use the event to raise money for a charity of their choice. Canadian Paralympians, including Chantal Petitclerc, met with Minister Peter Fassbender today at the Richmond Oval as part of a Canadian Tour to support Paralympic Sport ahead of the Rio 2016 Games. The event was organized by the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association, and included a roster announcement for Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby team.
As part of an IAEA training course on nuclear security, an indoor tour is conducted at Japan’s Physical Protection Exercise Field, part of its Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN), in Tokai-Mura. ISCN training courses combine classroom learning on key concepts with exercises and demonstrations. Participants gained hands-on experience with real equipment and measures that States employ to strengthen physical protection of nuclear material and facilities. (June 2017)
Japan is a member of the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC Network), which was established by IAEA Member States in 2012 to facilitate sharing of information and resources and to promote coordination and collaboration among states with an NSSC or those having an interest in developing a centre. The 2018 NSSC Network Annual Meeting will be hosted at ISCN, 5 – 9 March 2018.

Friday 13 December 2019, saw the latest police community support officers (PCSOs) complete their training in preparation for beginning duty on the streets of Greater Manchester.
The occasion was marked by a passing-out parade at the Force’s Sedgley Park Centre.
The work of PCSOs complements and supports their regular police officer colleagues. They provide a highly visible and accessible uniformed presence in the heart of local communities, which is intended to improve the quality of life and offer reassurance to the general public.

Kids supporting Pennies in Protest efforts. Our families discussed the WBC protests in a way that suited the age, cognitive development, and temperament of each child. We invited our older children to attend the VCU rally, if they wished. These two children also asked to attend the later Hermitage High School rally.
Alleria as in the video support fed with a mixture of low lactose cottage cheese and little pears / banana puree. She has lost weight off, getting old, have the beginning of back legs weakness, has a growing mammary tumor and lens prolapse in one eye. She is, after all, still sprightly for her age, but we should be happy for each day / week we can keep her.

The photo shows the tools I used to hold a 2x4 against the ceiling of my garage. I was attaching 2x4s to the ceiling to make it easier to hang things and brace things (like free-standing shelves).
The picture was taken part-way through the process of pressing the board to the ceiling. I was acting alone. Based on something I saw in a magazine, and heavily influenced by my make-it-as-complicated-as-possible philosophy, the method I used was this:
1. Mark location on ceiling for the 2x4 ceiling board (hereafter referred to as "ceiling board").
2. Nail two small string cradles to the ceiling near the ends of the proposed position of the ceiling board. The ceiling board will hang temporarily in these cradles.
3. Insert one end of the ceiling board into one cradle, then the other end into the other cradle. Result: the ceiling board is hanging in the two cradles about two inches (5cm) below the ceiling.
4. Place two clamps within easy reach of each end of the ceiling board. They will be used later.
5. Grab two other boards: a pre-cut board that is almost as long as the floor-to-ceiling distance and a short board. These, clamped together, will act as temporary supports for the ceiling board. Stand on a stool under one end of the ceiling board, holding the two supports together vertically.
6. Keeping the supports pressed together, move the short board upward as far as possible, elevating the end of the ceiling board. Clamp the two supports together. RESULT: the very end of the ceiling board is pressed against the ceiling. The other end of the ceiling board is still lying in its cradle.
7. Repeat the raising process at the other end of the ceiling board. RESULT: this end of the ceiling board is now pressed against the ceiling, but the other end is still a bit loose.
8. Return to the first end of the ceiling board, loosen the clamps, repeat the raising process, and re-clamp the supports. RESULT: this end of the hanging board is tight enough against the ceiling to require no more raising.
9. Return (again) to the second end and repeat the raising process there. RESULT: the ceiling board is pressed tightly enough against the ceiling to allow drilling of pilot holes for the screws that will attach the ceiling board to the ceiling.
10. Drill holes, install screws, remove the hanging cradles and supports.
The process is tedious to say the least. But it worked: I attached four 2x4s to the ceiling in this manner. After this work was finished I realized I could have simplified this process by using my stepladders as bases for holding the 2x4s in place. One can buy devices called "third hands" (often used by carpenters and drywall installers) to hold things in place, but I am too cheap to shell out $50 for a tool that gets little use.
I am in a rare fit of industriousness in the garage. That's why I've been inactive on Flickr lately. The goal is to create a better working environment on my side of the garage and enough additional storage space that we can park my wife's Jeep in the garage again.
