Dragon detail from Shibamata Taishakuten, which was founded in 1629 - but the buildings in the area are generally from the early 20th century. The inner shrine of the Taishakudo (Taishaku temple hall) was finished in 1915 and the hall of worship 1929. The temple is centred around the worship of Taishakuten (sometimes called just Taishaku - written 帝釈天 or 帝釈 respectively), the Japanese name for Sakra devanam Indra (that is, the god Indra, known from Hinduism).
The temple (and its nearby ferry) is designated as one of the '100 Soundscapes of Japan' (日本の音風景100選) and the temple is also '100 Landscapes of Japan (Heisei era)' (平成百景). And it is the home of a series of quite spectacular wood carvings, depicting scenes from the Lotus Sutra, and with some really beautiful dragons which carry beams on their heads (the wooden kind, not the ray of light-kind of beam...).

Swedish summer surprise: Who knew so many Barnacle Geese would gather by the waterfront this year? Our lakeshore picnic plans took an unexpected twist when we realized the grassy spots were covered in bird souvenirs. The real challenge wasn't finding the view, it was finding a clean place to enjoy our homemade meal..

En svensk sommaröverraskning: Vem hade kunnat tro att så många vitkindade gäss skulle samlas vid vattnet i år? Våra picnic-planer vid sjökanten tog en oväntad vändning när vi insåg att gräsplättarna var täckta av fågelspår. Den verkliga utmaningen var inte att hitta utsikten, utan att hitta en ren plats för att njuta av vår hemlagade måltid. This stump supporting the large pot was an elder tree deposited as a seed forty years ago by a passing bird no doubt. It grew and grew and as we aged together I became weaker and it became stronger, pushing down my fences and scattering dye filled berries everywhere. When my friend who made red wine from the berries and white wine from the flowers passed away and I became less able to control its growth I had it reduced it to a stump. I felt guilty but it did make a good stand for the pot.

I am pleased to have the support of my grand daughter as an assistant on some of my photoshoots and it's a special bonus when she smiles.
I used ambient light and a ring light to provide highlights from the left hand side. I set the camera aperture to f/1.8 to slightly defocus the background.
Looking up at the award-winning Sharp Centre for Design at OCAD University in Toronto. Although quite striking with the 12 multi-coloured, pencil-like supports, I downplayed the colour as to highlight the contrasting shapes, angles, light and textures with this capture.

The Forty Martyrs of Sebaste are Christian soldiers who were martyred for their faith in Christ in Sebastia (Lesser Armenia, modern Turkey) in 320 under Emperor Licinius.
In the hands of each of them is the Cross and the Crown.
The forty martyrs of Sebastopol are seen as the support of the Church on whose bones and blood it was built. According to ancient legend, the power of their collective prayer has the ability to give strength to both the structure of the temple and the body of the Church as a single spiritual organism.
Сорок Севастійських мучеників - воїни-християни, які прийняли мученицьку смерть за віру в Христа в Севастії (Мала Вірменія, сучасна Туреччина) у 320 році за імператора Ліцинія.
У руках кожного з них Хрест і Вінець.
Сорок мучеників Севастійських розглядаються як опора Церкви на чиїх кістках і крові вона зводилась. За давньою легендою, сила їх колективної молитви має здатність надавати міцність як конструкції храму, так і тілу Церкви як єдиному духовному організму.
На фото зліва фрагмент головного вівтаря, який увінчує над аркою апсиди (вівтарної ніші) мозаїчна композиція “Деісус” (“Моління”) – три медальйони з погрудними зображеннями. У центральному, хрещатому, зображено Христа, до Нього благоговійно схилились у молитві Іоанн Предтеча та Богоматір.
