TEXTO DO ERNANIB:
Ajude!!! Divulge!!! Dê corda nesses pequenos relógios de vida.

We have time for watching TV, reading the papers or a good book but we never have time for reading a message asking for help.
But there are the ones who don’t have any more time to lose. The ones who didn’t have time to plant. That barely have time to play. That won’t have time to say “I love you, mom, dad”. Because someone, somewhere didn’t have time to read this message, to try to know what it means, to try to know how to help. Because many times who could help don’t have the time, because it’s not an investment with short term interest or because thinks its time is too valuable to spend with somenone who doesn’t have that much time.
Stop for a moment.Try to read and get informed. The children that are about to say their goodbyes to life will be thankful for these few moments you took to help them.. Don’t let their life clocks stop just because you didn’t want to waste your time. Help them! Spread the word! Wind up these little life clocks

The display reads:
The M981, known as the FIST-V was the first U.S. Army specialized vehicle for the Fire Support Team or Forward Observer in the U.S. Army. Introduced in 1978, the FIST-V used a M113 Armored Personnel Carrier chassis and was identical in appearance to the M901 Improved TOW Vehicle (ITV). This identical appearance helped make the fire support team less of a target on the battlefield. The ITV used the large "hammerhead" on top of the vehicle to launch TOW anti-tank missiles. The "hammerhead" on the FIST-V housed a ground / vehicle laser locator designator (G/VLLD) and a AN/TAS-4 night sight. This allowed the fire support team to locate and designate targets with the laser to be hit by precision guided artillery projectiles or aerial bombs. Inside, the M981 had seven radios and two digital message devices to communicate with the infantry or armor units it supported or the artillery fire direction center. During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, units found that the M981 and other M113 series vehicles were unable to keep up with the Abrams tanks and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The FIST-V was replaced by the Bradley FIST (BFIST) beginning in 2000.

In a debate with Presidents Michel and von der Leyen, MEPs called for continued support for Ukraine and a common EU response to the US inflation reduction act.
“We are seeing more examples of Russia’s strategy of terror in Ukraine but its people will continue to resist and the EU will support their efforts”, said European Council President Charles Michel. He added that the EU must rapidly boost the competitiveness of European companies so they can compete with those in the USA and China that receive massive state aid. President Michel also highlighted the significant progress made in the EU’s coordinated response to high energy prices and underlined the importance of the upcoming reform of the electricity market, talks on migration and the need to strengthen sanctions against Iran for its continued repression of its citizens. “2023 will be a key year for the European project”, he concluded.
On Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Commission President said that “we need strength and resolve”. Europe has shown unity and joint efforts, for example regarding energy, have paid off, with gas prices now lower than before the invasion and gas storage at 80%. “For this winter we are safe, but we now have to prepare for the next one”, she continued and announced that the first energy supply contracts will be signed before summer.
To boost the competitiveness of Europe’s industry, President von der Leyen presented the “Green Deal industrial plan”, based on four pillars: speed and access, by simplifying and fast-tracking procedures; boosting investment in clean tech production by temporarily adapting state aid rules; supporting workers to improve their skills set to create good and well-paid jobs; and trade agreements to secure strong and resilient supply chains.
MEPs welcomed the EU’s continued support for Ukraine‘s stand against Russia’s aggression. They were convinced the European model will prevail over the Russian dictatorship, because Europe puts people first and does not use them to push through the will of a political leader.
Some MEPs demanded an increase in support for the most vulnerable during the cost of living crisis, and to ensure better conditions for platform workers. Others welcomed the Commission‘s action plan for European industry and called for an EU fund in response to the US inflation reduction act.
Some MEPs suggested better targeting of EU subsidies and more investment in research and development, a major prerequisite for improving the EU’s competitiveness. On the green transition, several MEPs urged the EU to maintain the momentum and advance the work set out in the European green deal.

Three new USAID projects will deliver immediate food aid and long-term solutions in South and Southeastern Madagascar
In December 2020, alongside President Andry Rajoelina, U.S. Ambassador Michael P. Pelletier was pleased to announce three new projects funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), making an additional $100 million commitment by the United States to combat food insecurity in Madagascar. Through these projects, the Government of the United States, working side-by-side with the Government of Madagascar, will respond to the urgent needs of families in hunger
and provide long-term solutions to food insecurity in the south and southeast of Madagascar. Ambassador Pelletier, who just returned from a trip to the most affected regions of the south, shared his impressions of the challenges there, and the effectiveness of ongoing US assistance, in coordination with the Government and many partners. He invoked a well-known Malagasy proverb, noting that “We are brothers walking in the forest...You can always rely on the United States of America, as we know we can rely on Madagascar.”
In the past decade alone, the United States has helped the Government of Madagascar and the Malagasy people overcome cyclones, plague, measles, and COVID-19. Since 2015, the U.S. government has been the leading provider of food aid and agricultural supplies to southern Madagascar, providing more than
$100 million in emergency assistance.
In line with the Government of Madagascar’s own strategy for addressing food insecurity in the south, these three new USAID projects will not only provide emergency food assistance, but also develop long-term solutions to food insecurity.
USAID’s Firangà project will provide $10 million in emergency food assistance to more than 222,000 people in hard-hit Atsimo Andrefana and Androy regions. The project will also treat malnutrition in children under five years old. Catholic Relief Services will implement Firangà.
USAID’s five-year, $45 million Maharo development project will address the long-term nutritional needs of more than 279,000 vulnerable people in Atsimo Andrefana and Androy, helping them become healthier, more resilient, and more prosperous. In the short-term, Maharo will also provide immediate food relief to vulnerable families. Catholic Relief Services will also implement Maharo.
The third USAID project is the five-year, $45 million Fiovana project, which will reduce food insecurity for more than 428,000 people in the southeastern regions of Vatovavy-Fitovinany and Atsimo Atsinanana. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency will implement Fiovana. These projects will collaborate closely with the Government of Madagascar’s drought response and long-term development efforts. They are also aligned with more than $10.5 million in U.S. government-funded emergency activities that the World Food Programme and UNICEF are already delivering, including 8,330 metric tons of emergency food aid and $2.5 million in malnutrition treatment for young children.
The U.S. government, through USAID, has worked with the Government of Madagascar and local partners for 36 years to promote the health and prosperity of the Malagasy people. Last year, USAID assistance totaled $114 million, including $62 million in health sector activities where the United States is the largest single country donor. The other $52 million supported a range of programs to promote
economic growth and job opportunities, protect and develop natural and human resources, marine and forest resources, and promote sustainable agriculture and food security.

Volunteer: Nemesia & Jo Lynch - Volunteer Dates: Oct 02 - Nov 10, 2013 - Location: La Serena Chile Project: Orphanage Support
www.abroaderview.org/feedbacks/chile/395-nemesia-jo-lynch...
Our favorite memories...
Nemesia: There is many to choose from but my favorite memory from working at the home was our last day when we gave the Tias we had been working with cards that we had translated what we wanted to say into Spanish. The Tia I worked with actually cried as I was finally able to tell her I admired her and that she made me proud of my Chilean heritage.
My favorite part of staying in our accommodation was being escorted by the two dogs that lived down the road every morning to the bus stop. Everywhere we went in La Serena, including the shopping centres, we had a dog follow or escort us there! It was great company.
Jo: I became very close to one particular baby girl who I was told, was very unsettled around men before I came. We bought her a little present when we left and despite being sick she was still really excited when we handed it to her, waving her arms around and squealing.
We were surprised that:
Nemesia: Before we came to La Serena we were in Cusco Perú which has a huge tourism industry and it's not to hard to find someone who speaks English there. I was surprised that almost no one spoke English in La Serena. It was actually very helpful because it forced me to work harder on my Spanish.
Jo: I was surprised that the home was as well organized and clean as it was; despite the little funding they receive.
The most difficult thing we experienced was:
Nemesia: It can be very hard working with children and not getting emotionally attached to them and wishing you could do more for them. I just had to keep reminding myself of the fantastic work the Tias do and that they genuinely love and care for each and every child with the little they have.
Jo: Language barrier!
Our best received lessons:
Nemesia: Each day I would learn a little more about taking care of children from 10 days to 18 months old from watching the Tias; from changing nappies to feeding and burping. I am definitely a pro now at getting babies to sleep! (which I am sure will help in the future)
I also learnt a lot of Chilean slang by just listening to the conversations around me which put a lot of words that my Chilean family say into context for me which was a really fun experience. The Tias have such great senses of humour; they made learning Spanish funny.
Jo: Feeding a one year old without making a mess! Very challenging!
Tips for future volunteers:
Nemesia: Be prepared to get sick! The children are constantly battling the flu as they no sooner get better and get it from another child in the home; so be prepared to get the flu for a couple days. There is a juice stand on the way to the orphanage, we tried to drink as much orange juice as we could to combat the flu.
Girl dropouts are a major problem fighting poverty in Malawi, as giving girls and women a better position and better education remains maybe the best way of all to bring change and a better future to Malawi.
At Matunduzi school we saw how the IM-funded project GESI addressed one of the causes of girl dropouts - girls falling behind in their studies due to problems doing their homework due to all the tasks they are asked to do at home.
At Matundizi school, and dozens of similar school, new reading techniques have been introduced and teachers educated in new pedagogical skills.
The reading class seen on these photos were engaging and active to the extreme... Not the least I loved seeing how much space the girls demanded, they were not rated below boys and not discriminated.
Having trained on different reading techniques by GESI, teachers at the school have used the methods to supplement primary school curriculum. One STD 2 teacher introduced supplementary readers from old curriculum books to enhance a reading culture. Through such, most pupils in Standard 2 have acquired Chichewa (Malawis majority language) reading mastery. A rare occurrence in primary schools rocked by myriad challenges.
Meanwhile, on a regular basis, mother groups, that are also getting support and organizational advice from GESI, meets with girls at the school to discuss issues for their retention and achievement. ‘We feel obliged to support our girls so that they should not experience the difficulties we have now due to lack of education.”
Mother group members raise funds for need girls, they give advice and they visit parents who withdraw their girls from schools.
Girls Education Support Initiative (GESI), is funded by IM and run by Malawian NGO Creccom. GESI is an integrated approach to address challenges facing girl children through community mobilization including meeting girls’ post-primary education cost.
The complexities are enormous and intertwine poverty and male dominated culture and put restraints on girls’ education.
IM and Creccom has pledged to promote girls education and fight these constraints.
