Lilies of the Field is a 1962 book by William Edmund Barrett which was made into a 1963 film and adapted for the musical stage with the title Look to the Lilies. It tells the story of a Black-American itinerant worker who encounters a group of East German nuns who are convinced he has been sent to them by God to help them build a new chapel.
Poitier won the 1963 Academy Award for Best Actor, the first time a black man won a competitive Oscar in the USA. The film was also nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Lilia Skala), Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

Avoid high contrast situations if possible. The keyboard here is almost white, and the surrounds are dark from the tree shadows, so the exposure is heavily overexposed for te keyboard, making it a very poor shot.
Even the shadow on the face contributes to the problem.
This reminds me very much of how I felt about Windows Vista, which was the reason I changed to Apple MAc.

Again, another picture from work. Just can't stop seeing images. I was told to get a count of these cylinders and send them back to the manufacture because they were out of tolerances. I started to stand them up on my red work table so it would be easier to count them. While I was standing them up I began to see a pattern appear. Counted and the break buzzer blew. Ha now is my chance (legal)! I rearranged them a little and snapped a few shots.
This one came out the best, a little cropping and tweaking in P.S. and this is what I came up with.

Some background:
The Cessna Model 336 and 337 “Skymaster” were American twin-engine civil utility aircraft built in a unique push-pull configuration. Their engines were mounted in the nose and rear of its pod-style fuselage. Twin booms extended aft of the wings to the vertical stabilizers, with the rear engine between them. The horizontal stabilizer was aft of the pusher propeller, mounted between and connecting the two booms.
The first Skymaster, Model 336, had fixed landing gear and initially flew on February 28, 1961. It went into production in May 1963 with 195 being produced through mid-1964. In February 1965, Cessna introduced the larger Model 337 Super Skymaster with more powerful engines, retractable landing gear, and a dorsal air scoop for the rear engine (the "Super" prefix was subsequently dropped from the name). In 1966, the turbocharged T337 was introduced, and in 1973, the pressurized P337G entered production.
The type was very prolific and Cessna built 2.993 Skymasters of all variants, including 513 military O-2 (nicknamed "Oscar Deuce") versions from 1967 onwards. The latter featured underwing ordnance hard points to hold unguided rockets, gun pods or flares, and served in the forward air control (FAC) role and psychological operations (PSYOPS) by the US military between 1967 and 2010. Production in America ended in 1982, but was continued by Reims in France, with the FTB337 STOL and the military FTMA “Milirole”.
Both civil and military Cessna 336/337 version had long service careers, and some were considerably modified for new operators and uses. Among the most drastic conversions was the Spectrum SA-550, built by Spectrum Aircraft Corporation of Van Nuys, California, in the mid-1980s: Spectrum took the 336/337 airframe and removed the front engine, lengthened the nose to maintain the center of gravity, and replaced the rear piston engine with a pusher turboprop which offered more power than the combined pair of original petrol engines. The Spectrum SA-550 conversion also came together with an optional modernization package that prolonged the airframes’ service life, so that modified machines could well serve on for 20 years or more.
This drastic conversion was executed for both military and civil operators. The best-known military SA-550s were six former USAF O-2A airframes, which had been transferred to the U.S. Navy in 1983 for use as range controllers with VA-122 at NAS Lemoore, California. These aircraft were operationally nicknamed “Pelican”, due to the characteristic new nose shape, and the name unofficially caught on.
However, the SA-550 package was only adopted sporadically by private operators, but it became quite popular among several major police and fire departments. Typical duties for these machines included border/drug patrol, surveillance/observation duties (e.g. traffic, forest fire) and special tasks, including drug interdiction as well for SAR missions and undercover operations like narcotics and serialized criminal investigations. Some SA-550s were accordingly modified and individually outfitted with suitable sensors, including IR/low light cameras, searchlights, and internal auxiliary tanks. None were armed, even though some aircraft featured underwing hardpoints for external extra tanks, flare dispensers for nocturnal operations or smoke charge dispensers for ground target marking to guide water bombers to hidden forest fires.
The type’s versatility, low noise level, high travel speed and good loitering time in the operational area at low speed proved to be vital assets for these public service operators and justified its relatively high maintenance costs. A handful of the modernized Spectrum SA-550 machines were still in active service after the Millennium, primarily in the USA.

The kit and its assembly:
This build is the combination of ingredients that had already been stashed away for a long time, and the “Red Lights” Group Build at whatifmodellers.com in early 2021 was a good motivator and occasion to finally put everything together.
The basis is an ARII 1:72 Cessna T337 model kit – I had purchased it long ago with the expectation to create a military Skymaster from it, but I was confused by a fixed landing gear which would make it a 336? Well, without a further concrete plan the kit preliminarily landed in The Stash™…
However, the ARII model features the optional observation windows in the doors on the starboard side, in the form of a complete(!) fuselage half, so that it lends itself to a police or firefighter aircraft of some sort. This idea was furthermore fueled by a decal sheet that I had been given from a friend, left over from a 1:72 Italeri JetRanger, with three optional police helicopter markings.
The final creative element was the real-world “Pelican” conversion of six O-2As for the US Navy, as mentioned in the background above: the front engine was replaced with a longer nose and the engine configuration changed to a pusher-only aircraft with a single powerful turboprop engine. This looked so odd that I wanted to modify the ARII Cessna in a similar fashion, too, and all these factors came together in this model.
My Arii Cessna 337 kit is a re-boxing from 2009, but its origins date back to Eidai in 1972 and that’s just what you get: a vintage thing with some flash and sinkholes, raised (but fine) surface details and pretty crude seams with bulges and gaps. Some PSR is direly necessary, esp. the fit of the fuselage halves is cringeworthy. The clear parts were no source of joy, either; especially the windscreen turned out to be thick, very streaky (to a degree that I’d almost call it opaque!) and even not fully molded! The side glazing was also not very clear. I tried to improve the situation through polishing, but if the basis is already poor, there’s little you can do about it. Hrmpf.
However, the kit was built mostly OOB, including the extra O-2 glazing in the lower doors, but with some mods. One is a (barely visible) extra tank in the cabin’s rear, plus a pilot and an observer figure placed into the tight front seats. The extended “Pelican” nose was a lucky find – I was afraid that I had had to sculpt a nose from scratch with 2C putty. But I found a radome from a Hasegawa RA-5C, left over from a model I built in the Eighties and that has since long fallen apart. However, this nose fitted almost perfectly in size and shape, I just “blunted” the tip a little. Additionally, both the hull in front of the dashboard and the Vigilante radome were filled with as many lead beads as possible to keep the nose down.
The kit’s OOB spatted, fixed landing gear was retained – even though it is dubious for a Cessna 337, because this type had a fully retractable landing gear, and the model has the landing gear covers actually molded into the lower fuselage. On the other side, the Cessna 336’s fixed landing gear looks quite different, too! However, this is a what-if model, and a fixed landing gear might have been a measure to reduce maintenance costs?
The propeller was replaced with a resin four-blade aftermarket piece (from CMK, probably the best-fitting thing on this build!) on my standard metal axis/styrene tube adapter arrangement. The propeller belongs to a Shorts Tucano, but I think that it works well on the converted Cessna and its powerful pusher engine, even though in the real world, the SA-550 is AFAIK driven by a three-blade prop. For the different engine I also enlarged the dorsal air intake with a 1.5 mm piece of styrene sheet added on top of the molded original air scoop and added a pair of ventral exhaust stubs (scratched from sprue material).
Another addition is a pair of winglets, made from 0.5 mm styrene sheet – an upgrade which I found on several late Cessna 337s in various versions. They just add to the modernized look of the aircraft. For the intended observation role, a hemispherical fairing under the nose hides a 180° camera, and I added some antennae around the hull.
However, a final word concerning the model kit itself: nothing fits, be warned! While the kit is a simple affair and looks quite good in the box, assembling it turned out to be a nightmare, with flash, sinkholes, a brittle styrene and gaps everywhere. This includes the clear parts, which are pretty thick and blurry. The worst thing is the windscreen, which is not only EXTRA thick and EXTRA blurry, it was also not completely molded, with gaps on both sides. I tried to get it clearer through manual polishing, but the streaky blurs are integral – no hope for improvement unless you completely replace the parts! If I ever build a Cessna 337/O-2 again, I will give the Airfix kit a try, it can only be better…
Painting and markings:
The choice between the operator options from the JetRanger sheet was hard, it included Sweden and Italy, but I eventually settled for the LAPD because the livery looks cool and this police department not only operates helicopters, but also some fixed-wing aircraft.
I adapted the LAPD’s classic black-and-white police helicopter livery (Gloss White and Black, Humbrol 22 and 21, respectively) to the Cessna and extended it to the wings. At this point – already upset because of the poor fit of the hardware – disaster struck in the form of Humbrol’s 22 turning into a pinkish ivory upon curing! In the tin, the paint and its pigments looked pretty white and “clean”, and I assume that it’s the thinner that caused this change. What a crap! It’s probably the third tin with 22 that causes trouble, even though in different peculiarities!
The result was total rubbish, though, and I tried to rub the paint off as good as possible on the small model with its many windows, the fixed, delicate landing gear and the wing support struts. Then I overpainted the areas with Revell 301 (Semi-matt White). While this enamel yielded the intended pure white tone, the paint itself is rather gooey and not easy to work with, so that the overall finish turned out worse than desired. At least the black paint worked properly. The demarcations were created with black decal stripes (TL Modellbau), because the tiny model left little room for complex masking measures – and I did not risk any more painting accidents.
Since the aircraft would be kept shiny and clean, I just did a light black ink washing to emphasize surface details and did a light panel post-shading on the black areas, not for weathering but rather to accent surface structures. No further weathering was done (and necessary).
The markings/decals come – as mentioned above – from an Italeri 1:72 JetRanger, but they were augmented with some additional markings, e. g. grey walkways on the wings and “L-A-P-D” in large black letters under the wings, to distract from the poor finish of the white paint around them…
Finally, the kit was sealed overall with Italeri semi-gloss acrylic varnish, just with a matt anti-glare shield in front of the windscreen, which received thin white trim lines (generic decal stripes).
A challenging build due to the Arii kit’s rather poor basis, the massive rhinoplasty and the crisp paint scheme. However, I like the result – what-if models do not always have to be armed military vehicles, there’s potential in other genres, too. And this mono-engine “Pelican” Skymaster plays its role as a “flying eye” in police service credibly and well. However, this was my first and last Eidai kit…

The conference has raised $11 billion in aid for the humanitarian crisis, as well as commitments to support 1.7 million children in education and deliver 1.1 million jobs across the region.
BACKGROUND
The Supporting Syria and the Region conference is taking place in London, today on 4 February 2016.
It brings together world leaders in a bid to raise the money needed to help the millions of people whose lives have been torn apart by the devastating civil war in Syria.
Syria is the world's biggest humanitarian crisis. Billions of dollars in international aid are needed to support people caught up in the conflict.
The UK, Germany, Kuwait, Norway, and the United Nations are co-hosting the conference to raise significant new funding to meet the immediate and longer-term needs of those affected.
The conference is also setting ambitious goals on education and economic opportunities to transform the lives of refugees caught up in the Syrian crisis - and to support the countries hosting them.
This event alone cannot solve all these problems. Ultimately a political solution is necessary to bring the Syrian conflict to an end.

At the World Pole Sports Championships at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London, 23 July, 2016
A little before 6:30am on August 6 San Jose Fire Department received multiple reports of a fire burning in Public Storage on Felipe Ave. With reports of the blaze on Felipe and additional reports of fire burning in the building to the rear a second Full First alarm assignment was dispatched to the other address.
Units arriving at the storage facility reported heavy flame and escalated their incident to a second alarm. Ultimately it was determined the building to the rear was not burning and those fire units were added to the Felipe incident making up a third alarm.
Around 3 hours after it was first reported the blaze was extinguished. Storage units on the ground and second floor were destroyed. As is typical of a storage building fire fuel loads were heavy and it was not clear what was in the units or if there were hazardous materials.
Fire Associates of Santa Clara Valley were responded to the scene to provide Firefighter Rehab support. FSU2 is a 2008 Ford F550 with a custom build out for Rehab use.

My 2013 Disney Parks Snow White 12'' Doll has been completely deboxed. She is standing, supported by a Kaiser doll stand (not included with the doll), and is photographed from various angles.
I bought her at the Disneyland Main Street Emporium on July 7, 2013, for $19.95.
From the neck up she is almost identical to the 2012 Disney Store (DS) Classic Snow White. Her face seems to be the same as the 2012 DS Snow White. Her hairdo has been made a bit neater and more movie accurate by reducing the size of the side curls, and moving them further down the sides of her head. I like her face better than the 2011 Disney Parks Snow White doll, but her hair isn't as nice. Her body from the neck down is the same as the 2011 Disney Parks Snow White, that is she has non-articulated arms and rubber legs with internal knee joints and fixed angled feet. She is less posable than the DS dolls, but her exposed arms and legs look better than the fully articulated 2012 DS doll. Her outfit is a mixture of the ones on the old Parks doll and the 2013 DS doll. It is much more basic than the old Parks outfit, since it is missing the cape, the petticoat, and the cloth panties. Her old outfit also had a velvet bodice with gold trim, rather than a glitter covered satin bodice with no trim. Her collar is now double thickness white satin whose layers are glued together and unhemmed, rather than the hemmed double layered satin collar of the old doll. Her pale yellow skirt is less full and a bit shorter, and has a floral pattern covered in glitter, similar to the skirt of the 2013 DS doll. Finally instead of the lovely shiny gold heels of the old Parks Snow White, the new doll has pale yellow heels that match the color of her skirt. She is a decided downgrade from the old Parks Snow White doll, but I still think she is an attractive doll. But at twice the price of the 2013 DS doll, she is much less of a value.
Following is a detailed comparative review of the 2013 Parks Snow White Doll versus the 2011 Parks Snow White doll. They are also compared in less detail to the 2012 and 2013 Disney Store Classic Snow White dolls. The review is divided in various physical categories.
Head and Face: The 2013 Parks Snow White doll has same head and face as the 2012 Disney Store Classic Snow White doll, with a couple of subtle changes. Her small brown eyes are a little brighter, with a thinner ring of dark brown surrounding the light brown main area of her iris. She is glancing to her right. She has thick black eyeliner, no eyeshadow and thre short thick eyelashes over each eye. She has thin black eyebrows. Her round face has a small button nose, small mouth in an open smile, with full red lips. The color of lips is a little deeper than the 2012 DS Snow. She has full cheeks very lightly rouged. She is very pretty and much more movie accurate than the 2011 Parks doll.
The 2011 Parks Snow White doll has a longer face, with cheeks that are not as full. Her lips are a deeper and truer red, and her mouth a little more open. She has more color in her cheeks. She has larger eyes, with much larger pupils, that are looking straight ahead. Their color is a grayish darker brown than the 2013 doll, whose eyes are a light reddish brown color. The 2011 doll has four black lashes over each eye, and black eyebrows that are bit thicker than the 2013 doll, and further from her eyes, to help reduce the apparent size of her forehead. She is a very pretty doll, but not as movie accurate as the 2013 doll.
Hair: The 2013 Parks Snow White doll has short jet black in a hairdo that is based on the 2012 Disney store doll's hair, but modified to be neater and more movie accurate. The upper and lower side curls are now smaller and lower down her head. They are now more like the movie character's hairdo, and less like that of Princess Leia. Her hair has a lot of gel to keep it in place, a lot more than the 2012 DS doll, which makes it rather stiff and hard throughout. There is considerable variation in the hair style of different copies of this doll, so it is important to carefully choose the doll with the best looking hair, as it makes a big difference in the look of the doll.
The 2011 Parks Snow White doll has a very movie accurate bobbed hairdo. Her jet black hair is a bit longer than the 2013 Parks doll, reaching her shoulder in the back. It is curled innward at the ends. There is a small side curl on either side of her head, by her ears, that is stiffened and sewn in place. Elsewhere there is little or no hair product, so her hair is quite soft and smooth.
Outfit: The 2013 Parks Snow White doll has a much simplified outfit than the 2011 Parks doll, and is quite similar to that of the 2013 Disney Store doll. The dress is based on the iconic Princess dress of the movie character, but has various inaccuracies. Her bodice is dark blue satin covered in blue glitter, with puffy short sleeves made of red and light blue satin stripes. The end of the sleeves are trimmed in gold, which is a nice touch, except that they are mostly hidden by the puffy sleeves. The 2012 DS doll actually has more movie accurate sleeves, that are dark blue satin with red oval appliques. The neckline is slightly scalloped. Attached to the bodice is a very tall white satin collar, which has a pleasing rounded shape, as opposed to the square cornered collar of the 2012 DS doll. However, it is stiff satin, which appears to be two layers that are glued rather than sewed together, as was the collar of the 2012 DS doll and the 2011 Parks doll. The skirt is long and full, made of pale yellow satin, with a floral pattern (with small images of apples) covered in iridescent glitter. It is longer than that of the 2012 DS doll, but doesn't quite reach the floor. It can hold its shape fairly well due to the glitter and glue, but could definitely use a petticoat. It's pale yellow color is quite movie accurate, and the glitter pattern is very pretty and very sparkly. It is more accurate and more attractive than both the 2012 and 2013 Disney Store dolls.
The 2011 Parks Snow White doll has a very beautiful and elaborate and fairly movie accurate outfit. She has a dark blue velvet bodice with gold trim. The sleeves are longer than the 2013 doll, almost reaching her elbows, but are also made of red and blue satin stripes. However, instead of gold trim at the ends, the sleeves have red satin cuffs. There is a large white satin collar that is double layered and hemmed, and reaches around the front, whereas the 2013 collar starts at the sides. It is not as tall as the 2013 collar, and is more movie accurate in size and shape, as well as looking more finished. Her skirt is floor length and very full, helped considerably by the 3/4 length tulle petticoat underneath. It is also rounded at the top, rather than the simple A shape of the 2013 skirt. It is made of golden yellow satin, densely sprayed with gold glitter. It looks glamorous, but the glitter unfortunately sheds quite a bit. Draped across her shoulders is a 3/4 length cape made of dark pink velvet, with a pink satin liner. It would have been more accurate for it to be dark blue on the outside and red on the inside.
Shoes: The 2013 Parks Snow White doll has pale yellow high heeled shoes. The 2011 doll has mirror finish gold high heeled shoes, which look fabulous, even though the other doll's shoes are more movie accurate. To be more movie accurate, her shoes should be pale yellow, with medium heels, and bows above rounded toes.
Accessories: The 2013 Parks Snow White doll has the same yellow hairbrush with red gemstone as the 2011 doll. They both have red satin ribbons in their hair, with bows that are a little left of center. The 2013's bow is considerably larger, and looks like bowtie. The 2011 doll also has white cloth panties.
Body: Both the 2011 and 2013 Parks dolls have the same body. The arms are not articulated. The elbows and wrists are slightly bent in fixed positions. They have rubber legs which have internal knee joints and fixed angled feet. Her hip joints allow her to sit down with her legs together and her back straight up. But her knees can only bend about 40 degrees, so her legs stick out when she is sitting. In heels, the dolls stand 11 1/2 inches tall. Their skin tone is medium flesh tone.
Packaging: The 2013 Parks doll box is now rectangular, at 13'' H x 7 1/4'' W x 2 1/2'' D. The back and bottom are of double thickness cardboard, to which the doll and accessories are attached. There is a clear plastic window attached to the backing via tabs, through which the doll can be viewed from 3 sides and the top. On the back is a current Disney Princess promotional image, with background scenes from Disney Parks specific to each Princess. The box is fairly easy to take apart without damaging it, and it is sturdy and reusable.
The 2011 Parks doll box is semi-cylindrical, which measures 13 3/4'' H x 7 1/4'' W x 4'' D, so it is considerably larger than the new doll boxes. The front of the box is clear plastic, that is semi-cylindrical, so the doll can be seen from all sides except the back. The top cover is also clear plastic, and is removable. The backing with the doll attached is a separate piece that is completely removable from the box, which is necessary to debox the doll. The deboxing is trickier than for DS dolls or the 2013 Parks dolls. The box is reusable, and is sturdier than the 2013 Parks doll box.
2013 Disney Parks 12'' Princess Dolls Released in Disneyland
Disneyland Resort Anaheim (DLR) finally has the new 2013 Disney Parks 12'' Princess Dolls, which have been available in Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World since May 2013. They are still priced at $19.95 each, which is basically twice the price of the equivalent Disney Store doll (which is frequently on sale for $10 each). They are a joint release by Disney Theme Parks Merchandise (USA) and EuroDisney (Disneyland Paris).
As of June 30, 2013, DLR had 7 of the 10 new dolls available: Cinderella, Aurora, Mermaid Ariel, Wedding Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Rapunzel. Missing were the new Snow White, Tiana and Tinker Bell. All of the old versions of the dolls were still available. They were still selling the old (2012) Merida doll that was joint Disney Store and Disney Parks release. There hasn't been a new version released by Disney Parks so far. I bought them at the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. The Emporium on Main Street in Disneyland had no Disney Parks Princess dolls for sale.
On my visit to DLR on July 4, 2013, they had 2 more of the Disney Parks Princess dolls available for sale: Snow White and Tiana, who are shown here in their unopened boxes. There were no new Tinker Bell dolls (in fact Tinker Bell was missing altogether), and the Merida doll was last year's model.
I purchased the new Parks Tinker Bell doll on July 7, 2013. This completes my collection of all the newly released Parks Disney Princess Collection dolls.
I will photograph them boxed, during deboxing and fully deboxed. They will also be reviewed and compared with other versions of the Disney Princess dolls.

38-year old Bahati arrived in Kalobeyei refugee camp with her two children in 2016, fleeing not only the conflict in DRC but also sexual violence. The Danish Refugee Council has offered her the counselling and psychological support she needed to heal and regain a sense of normality.
