Revolving around a series of energetic stunts featuring automobiles, the show had its soft opening on March 14, 2005, but had its grand opening on May 5, 2005, as part of the Happiest Celebration on Earth festival at the Walt Disney World Resort, in honor of the very first Disney park, Disneyland, celebrating its fiftieth birthday. One aspect of the festival was each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks receiving a new attraction cloned from another Disney resort; the show was one of the star attractions at the Walt Disney Studios theme park at the Disneyland Resort Paris in France. -Wikipedia
Here's all six members of the
great Hollywood Pin-Up Girls Burlesque troupe
(see www.myspace.com/thehollywoodpinupgirls for
more photos of them - some taken by lucky me-
and to hear some of the music to which they
dance) taken onstage, with the curtain closed,
at the electric El Cid nightclub on
Sunset Boulevard.
I actually only know four of the girls:
from left to right there's Ashley, then
one I don't know, Anne, the other unknown one,
Nikki, and Elizabeth. My photos of both Ashley
and Elizabeth have been posted here
previously.
I had hoped to take a group shot, and
wrote Ashley - who is the one who does most
of the emailing for the group - and who is
quite gracious and sweet - and she
wrote me back and said
that she would make it happen after the
July show - they perform here once a month -
and she did. She came and fetched me
immediately after another erotically-charged,
dynamic, modern, arcane, delightful performance -
and along with my pal Salerno - whose photo with
the girls I previously posted -
I went onstage and took scores of photos of
all six at once.
This was a bit of a photographic lesson for me,
as I had never before tried to take six
simultaneous portraits before. And I discovered
what any photographer of a group discovers:
that it's hard to get one photo in which every
member of the group looks good. But it was
also fascinating to me how all six characters
came across in each photo. Ashley & Elizabeth
looked charming and happy in each and every
photo, while the other girls presented a
panoply of different expressions. This shot is
my favorite, and probably the best I got in
projecting these six individuals, joined
together in their singular burlesque.
As electric
and "sexually frank" (as Salerno put it)
as they are onstage, it is surprising and
sweet to discover that offstage they are
tender and quiet - it's that onstage-offstage
dynamic at the heart of so many performers,
and very much in play
onstage at the El Cid
with the curtains closed
and open.

Here's an outtake from today's SP. It shows the traffic I had to walk in to to complete my SP. I'm not exactly sure why both of today's shots came out jagged-looking. At 100% in CS2, they look fine. I think it has something to do with decreasing the size while working with it in RAW. Anyone got a hint?
UPDATE: I went back and reworked it using the larger resolution size in RAW and replaced it. I think it's cleaner now.

I was having my reflection on the beauty of life when I saw the rays spread all over the sea blazed by the fiery light of sunset. (Explored. Highest at #247, April 27, 2010.)
The fabulous Fuxedos
in performance at the historic El Cid
nightclub on Sunset Boulevard. Led by
the remarkable Danny Shorago, the Fuxedos
were as wild and hilarious ever on this hot June
night. Pictured elsewhere in this stream
they do a hilarious and mind-bending version of
Bacharach & David's "Always Something There
To Remind Me" that manages to be punk,
lounge, exotica and rave all in the space of one
song. They also do a spell-binding rendition of
"You Got A Spell On Me," the Screamin'
Jay Hawkins classic. During one song towards
the end of a wild set that saw Danny leap
headlong into the audience at one inspired
moment, actually knocking a guy right out of his
seat, Danny leapt back into the crowd and
distributed various masks to audience-members,
and then enticed them onto the stage to dance.
The girl in the cow-mask was a wonderful and
erotic dancer, even with the bovine face.
This is another photo of the
lovely Ashley, one of the dancers
in the Hollywood Pin-Up Girls burlesque
dance troupe, performing at the
El Cid nightclub on Sunset.
I have already posted some
photos of the troupe in action, and also one
photo of Ashley backstage. Here she is in the
midst of one of her routines, which are all sexy
and musical and dynamic and colorful.

Happy to say they liked my photos so much -
almost as much as I enjoyed taking them-
that they have included some of them
on their myspace page,
where 80 million-plus myspacers
can look
at them.
In a few days I'll be back in this place for some much needed Disney time and work time (technically I'll be a few feet to the right of this since right now I have no Coaster shifts but that's besides the point)
A bit over processed, yes. Do I still like yea. I'll figure out this Photoshop thing sooner or later.

Answering the call of my friends at Disney Photography Blog and ISO 5571, here is my first post in a very long time for "Disney Flickr Day".
I like the Flickr redesign so far, and have a special place in my heart for all of you in the Disney photography community here, I just haven't had a lot of shooting time in my past few trips to get the type of shots I want to post here.. our Disney vacations have become about family fun more than photography, even though you definitely won't find me in the parks without my camera!
I have a boatload of unedited photos still from past trips... maybe it's time to start dusting them off and posting a few here now and then until whenever I can next take a solo trip? I will try!
Welcome to Scheveningen, where the golden sands meet the endless sea. Here, the gentle lull of waves invites you to unwind, while the vibrant beachside promenade beckons with its array of cafes, bars, and shops.....
