This photo was taken after hiking up the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe, Spain, about an hour by car from where I was living in Alicante. The trip was significant because it was when I met my two best Spanish friends, Pablo and Alberto. They were also my bosses in my internship and this trip is when we first started talking about the possibility of me working for them. It turned out to be a great internship and would have been impossible if this hike hadn’t taken place.

I asked the subject to sit down near the window, where the sun could stream down on him. I asked him to pick up a book and look as if he were reading it. I lowered the camera to look up at him and took the photo with a high f-stop at 5.6, shutter speed at 1/13 due to the lower lighting from the window. The frame behind him kept getting cut off, but the angle was perfect to catch both his face and the artwork on the back of the book he was reading. I used Photoshop to convert the photo to black and white. This photo fulfills the Requirement 2: Indoor Natural Light and Requirement 1: Post-Processing.

Nature Color Studies.

Yet again „the walk“, I guess you know every single tree as well as I do right now ... BUT: I tried few things with the rendering, both while taking the shots and when processing them. When shooting I used a Kenko Nostaltone Orange, which is basically a diffusor and warming filter combined. That's where the color and softness comes from. I used a zoom lens all the way open, which gives vignette and fall off and a bit of additional softness. when proscessing them in LR and PS I payed attention to „fill the highlights with color“ and control the highlights in general. There was a beautiful „soft sunshine“ today (partially cloudy), and the light was so nice I hope I could capture that a little bit at least.
