The Cockscomb (or eastern edge of the Kaibab Uplift) running parallel to Cottonwood Canyon road in southern Utah is a wonderous geologic formation of so many unique colors and textures.
Stripping away the color in this image, I found that the variety of textures, from the thin clouds overhead, through the geologic sandstone formation, into the desert flora, create a visually stunning scene.
Utah's 'Mighty 5' National Parks and the Grand Canyon are definitely the attention grabbers in this region, but do yourself a favor and explore the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. You'll be glad you did!

A minimalist study with elements from here in the south of Sri Lanka. The mangrove and the sunrise on the beach belong to Mawella Bay.

4 minutes before sunset. The golden rim of the setting sun picks up the blue sky and white clouds. But it's the colors reflected in the calm sea that make this photo special. Enjoy!

The new Professor found her barings and settled into School nicely. There were a few things still left to do before the term started officially next week, and many things to consider as she settled into her new role. For now, she pulled out a book - there was material to review.

Nature's preferred, insistent and persistent formation is a hexagon, and the structure of hoarfrost is no exception. Impossible to see with the naked eye, it is so fascinating to get a close up shot to reveal one of Nature's tiny miracles.
I used three extension tubes (13mm, 21mm and 31mm) added to the macro lens.

Have a great new week
Another study in color grading.
I took this RAW shot 5 years ago and it is technically all wrong. I clearly remember the day since it was one of my first outings with my new Sony camera. Randi with her sharp eye pointed out the interesting patterns on the sand dunes in Malibu and I took this and a few similar shots. I clearly used the wrong aperture, the focus is off and framing is haphazard.
I have come back to this photo a few times over the years, intrigued by the shadows in the sand but not knowing what to do.
Recently, as I am learning more about color theory and color grading techniques, I have taken a swipe at editing this photo in a complementary color scheme. While the raw file is totally lacking color, with typical SoCal grayish sand, ocean and sky, this edit is specifically focused on complimentary orange and blue hues, evoking African sand dunes by the Indian Ocean.
Thank you very much for your views, kind comments and faves.
