Delecate blossoms of the hosta plant, also known as plantain lily. We have four varieties in our garden, three of which are blooming.

Wishing to observe Lent and abstain from meat ML & I decided to eat fish. I bought Salmon & Wellfleet Oysters down in Old Saybrook. After the fish market I stopped at the Old Saybrook town beach to take a few test shots for a possible study of this location during spring or autumn.

Best to arrive early on the weekends -- these spaces fill up quickly!

Here i tried to challenge my views on certain areas on Art. A few years ago i visited a Rothko Exhibit and had a lack of respect for the series as i thought it was to simplistic and didn't really understand it. I decided to study his processes and attempt a copy of one of his paintings. This piece is around six ft and took me weeks to complete. I followed the traditional layering and egg wash process continuously to try and achieve a realistic copy. The process alone made me respect Rothko for the dedication alone, then once i had finished i appreciated his work even more. Although this piece may seem simplistic i put so much work and dedication into it i formed an attachment and am very proud of the turn out. (Acrylic paint, egg wash - using brushes and sponge on 6 individual canvas's)

Small quick study I did as part of a workshop to loosen up your approach to painting

Nature Color Studies.

Yet again „the walk“, I guess you know every single tree as well as I do right now ... BUT: I tried few things with the rendering, both while taking the shots and when processing them. When shooting I used a Kenko Nostaltone Orange, which is basically a diffusor and warming filter combined. That's where the color and softness comes from. I used a zoom lens all the way open, which gives vignette and fall off and a bit of additional softness. when proscessing them in LR and PS I payed attention to „fill the highlights with color“ and control the highlights in general. There was a beautiful „soft sunshine“ today (partially cloudy), and the light was so nice I hope I could capture that a little bit at least.

All I really want to paint these days are the beautiful clouds. But I think that purple hill needs to go. Or maybe it just needs to be toned down...
