Up till now Maatje isn't of much practical use, I fear. But I must admit he's been studying the special literature in the field of photography all day, burying himself in photobooks and -periodicals. Here you see him studying the manual for the Nikon SB-800 flash. // Tot nu toe is Maatje niet van veel praktisch nut geweest, maar ik moet toegeven dat hij de hele dag hard in fotografische vakliteratuur heeft gestudeerd, zich langzaam begravend onder fotoboeken en -tijdschriften. I had another one posted of him staring down at his prey (although maybe unpleasant, I like it!) but after having a look through my shots again, I think this one is slightly (not much in it) clearer. Cropped heavily so poor quality really. Pity he didn't land in my garden so I could have got a bit closer but still it's a bird I didn't have a picture of yesterday :-)

Chris is the proud temporary father of a bristle star echinoderm on a beach in Central Andros Island, Bahamas.

Images were taken from the Andros Island sailing field study, April 2009. Field study is part of the marine biology program in the Saint Joseph School District.

With 100 speed film this is at f/3.8 so while the page is in focus his face isn't quite. I'm still not used to the narrow DOF of MF; useful when you want it but wow, very narrow, too narrow at times!

I try to convince the LoveOfMyLife, that I need a large format camera urgently, but I`m a camera-maniac and she is sceptical. I want to show her, what I would do with LF and so I made this studies in digital to give her an impression of the special low speed approach, when you use LF. If you want to support me, you`re invited to donate me some loose coins.
