This storm over Logan County, Colorado was weakening very quickly, but still able to generate quite a bit of lightning.
The photo taken here is actually a rotating thunderstorm, which at the time had small potential of becoming tornadic. I don't remember if this particular storm had evolved into a tornado or not. It was still interesting to observe, however.
On the evening of Jan 12, 2016 a big snow storm was moving in and finally bringing 2.5 to 3 feet of snow to the Black Forest area.
The paddle points to rain and storm clouds to the west heading our way! I talked Mary in to remaining here for a few minutes of photography. She reminded me that my "few minutes" often ends up "few hours" but she let me take a few pics.
As I came walking down the wetlands boardwalk there was a guy with a camera taking pictures of the ducks. He saw my long lens and asked me if I had seen anything interesting. I told him I’d seen a flock of migrating teal at another pond. We got to talking and he introduced himself as Tony Laubach and gave me his card. He told me he had recently moved to Wichita from southern Illinois to take a job as a meteorologist at a local TV station. His passion is storm chasing, and he pulled out his phone to show me some great lightning images he had taken in Arizona. Naturally I had to show him some of my flickr photos taken in the park. I asked him if he would be interested in posing for my flickr 100 strangers challenge and he readily agreed, so he becomes #10 for my strangers project.
You may recognize him from Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers" where he chased with Tim Samaras as part of Team TWISTEX for three seasons. Tony’s TV station meteorologist/storm chaser bio: www.kake.com/story/37887369/tony-laubach
A number of active storms passed through on the evening of 7 December 2025, although they kept their distance, and ended up being something of teasers.
