A very unusual November storm for central Iowa. Reports of strong winds and visual sightings of tornados.

Last week a friend of mine and I met up Martin to have a second bicycle shooting. The weather was perfect with some clouds and sunshine (interesting sky). But you were able to feel it in the air, a thunder storm was coming. After the shooting we had some beer in Martins garden and we were looking in the sky what was happen there. We saw a silly cloud with lots of thunders inside. What a amazing weather phenomena, it looked like a special effect from a Sifi movie from the 70th. We had the idea to follow this cloud to capture it. But I hadn't the right lens in my pocket. You need a wide open field/area to capture it, Martin maintained. So we drove to the Senne which was very closed by. The Senne is a military training area for the British forces and you are able to drive trough during the opening time. There is a big parade area where we found what we were looking for but the problem was, the silly cloud was gone. What we get was a thunder storm which was coming very closed to that area were we was stayed. After a while and some shots we decided to leave because the wind was blowing the thunder storm in our direction and it is crazy to stay in the middle of a wide open field during a thunder storm ;-)

The last two weeks have been challenging with the back to back storms. Upside…I caught some amazing shots today.

On the evening of Jan 12, 2016 a big snow storm was moving in and finally bringing 2.5 to 3 feet of snow to the Black Forest area.

Sound of distant thunder and the dark band of ominous clouds gave rise to the hope of capturing some lightning. Counting every few seconds and then releasing the shutter, playing the game of odds. But it never was, the storm fizzled out.

This storm over Logan County, Colorado was weakening very quickly, but still able to generate quite a bit of lightning.

We had a storm of biblical proportions here last night and lost power for about 12 hours. I've always been fascinated by photographs of lightning, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I took cover on the front porch with the camera and the tripod and fired away. I think this is the best of the ones I caught.

Actually, there wasn’t weather for taking photo that day. After hot morning with clear sky(around 30 c degree), the weather got worse rapidly in the afternoon. A cold wind sprang up and an air temperature quickly dropped. The whole surface of bay began to evaporate creating a thin layer of mist floating just above the water. It was raining and the storm WAS COMING. I saw the lightning and the downpour on the other side of bay.

The photo taken here is actually a rotating thunderstorm, which at the time had small potential of becoming tornadic. I don't remember if this particular storm had evolved into a tornado or not. It was still interesting to observe, however.
