I was on the coast in Rockport, Maine when a few storm cells passed by. Luckily, none came directly on us when we were out in the harbor.
This is a two shot stitched panorama from the archives that I did a little post processing to. I hope you like it!

Taken 6/27/2009 in central Illinois. This was my first session attempting lightning photography. It was the ideal night for photographing lighting, because it was off in the distance and it hadn't started raining yet.
This image was drastically over-exposed, and I nearly deleted it from the camera. I used Lightroom to recover the highlights, drop the exposure by two full stops, bump the contrast, increase the black clipping, and darken the dark tones.
Camera: Canon 350D
Lens: 24-104 @ 28mm
Exposure: 10 seconds at ISO400 and f/4.
It was a very cloudy day when I had gone to Centre Island and I found this neat-o picnic table with a nice view of the city.
I sat down for a while to enjoy the nice view and kinda half expecting the clouds to engulf the city much like in those Godzilla shows.... it didn't happen... I was sad :(
At a high altitude vineyard near Mt Veeder in Sonoma California. My son and I had raced up the narrow mountain road in the early morning only to turn around due to the thick layer of clouds. Partway down, the storm began to clear so we raced back up to view this drama unfold.

We had trees come down around us. Maybe the damage was not as bad as in other areas of the country. For one person, luckily (or unluckily) it was only the car that got the damage.

I went on my first storm chase of the season last night. There was a pretty decent storm with a tornado vortex on the doplar radar, so I drove out east after work. The storm did some hail damage in Commerce City (Denver), then moved slowly out over the plains at only 9 MPH. Since it was such a slow storm I was able to drive right up to the back of it. When I pulled off into a rest stop on I-76 to watch it, there were about 20 storm chasing vehicles at the stop, including the "Vortex 2" crew, one of which was kind enough to give me the scoop on the storm. "Not enough shear" was the issue. So no tornado this time. Still, it was fun to get out and chase one of these beasts. We should have a lot more in the next few weeks, as in Colorado, most tornadoes occur in the first two weeks of June.
Took this shot for my Rural Landscape project. Nothing says rural like a windmill! :) It is taken just of the Occultdale road, outside Durbanville.
