Rio Grande Southern 20 runs under the No Agua water tank in celebration of its 125th birthday at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

It is an interesting day when you must stop at a train crossing for a steam engine! Took this photo a few weeks ago in Essex, CT.

This would especially simple if there was an un-shock absorber piece that was compressed when at rest.

 

Failing that, what I was thinking was to have scissoring liftarms and rubber bands connecting the red and blue points there keep tension on the trucks' sections of the skirt.

 

I believe something like this would allow the bogies to slide out from side to side and also allow the motors to rotate somewhat, but only some 6 degrees, which I doubt is enough. I would also imagine you don't have the vertical space to spare that this probably requires.

 

Nonetheless, that was my best solution that allowed for a continuous pinstripe - perhaps you could make something like that work with the deep magicks at your disposal.

Train was hauled by Steam Locomotives 44871 and 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier - both Stanier Black Five Class 5MT 4-6-0.
