I was with my camera club on a photoshoot in a small village in Co. Laois, and came across this man in his workshop... preparing for a vintage festival day at the weekend.
Not yet 18 and thus can't be a fireman for another six months or so, but he's old enough to be a cleaner and has boundless enthusiasm. When he's out with me get he gets to fire the loco under my watchful eye. He's getting quite good at it too. :-) Here he prepares the fire in readiness for departure from Princes Risborough.

Please forgive the graininess.

Sir Lamiel on a high speed TPO pass through Quorn. Not great positioning with large white post, but it's a popular spot and we were late.

David has lit a warming fire in BR Standard '9F' no. 92214 and is poking around in the firebox to ensure the wood and the coal are optimally placed for efficient combustion.
Lighting a fire almost always results in a smoky cab. The acrid wood smoke meant that I grabbed a pic and made my escape into some fresh air.

Well the crew is but Stanier '8F' no. 48305 has two more trips to do on the dining train. Here she is back on shed ready to be handed over to the next crew.

Unfortunately this model "Lanky A Class" didn't run while I was there, but I couldn't resist a shot of it, as it was such a superb piece of engineering. Wakefield Society Of Model And Experimental Engineers Steam Gala. 3rd August 2019.
The harbourside in Bristol, the steam engine brings back memories of days gone by. The old warehouses of yesteryear now replaced by the new apartments blocks.
Written on the back of this photo was only "Exposition 1939". That was a World's Fair held on San Francisco's Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Treasure Island is an artificial island and a neighborhood in the city and county of San Francisco. Built 1936–37 for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, the island's World’s Fair site is a California Historical Landmark. The then newly completed Bay Bridge made the Exposition accessible to the City and the East Bay. (source Wikipedia)

'Standard 5' no. 73156 forges south past Woodthorpe with 'diner' - actually a lunchtime train. The fence on the right doesn't normally see people hanging around waiting for trains, but 'Tornado' was out and about, and that loco is a big draw wherever it goes.
