It Only Seems Kinky The First Time

Polymer clay with To Die For embossing enamel and Lumiere colour.

Everyone loves a rainy Sunday. The perfect time to watch a movie or read a good book. This fabulous statement piece is full of texture and wearing it will tell everybody what kind of weather you're hoping for.

This one of a kind cloud necklace was created by using bead embroidery on brown ultra-suede and adding tonnes of fringe in many shades of blue and green. The fringe is made with a variety of blue glass and a few dyed jade beads.

The cloud is 7cm (2.75in) by 11cm (4.25in) with 7.5cm (3in) of fringe. The necklace itself is three strands and 53.5cm (21in) long. It is finished with a round silver plated box clasp.

I originally read it as: "No to the EU! Yes to much!" (in Norwegian) - which I thought was a brilliant statement capturing the zeitgeist in Oslo of the summer of 2005 perfectly.

Well it turns out that it says (thanks, Forteller!): "No to the EU! Yes to MØE!" Where MØE, or M.Ö.E) is a group of taggers operating in Oslo. Not half as brilliant, I'm afraid - but still a statement. (Location: Blindernveien, by the tube-stop).

A reception was held on August 7, 2014 at The Lamb's Club for the August Midnight Moment, the reiteration of Alfredo Jaar's 1987 'A Logo for America'.

Amidst Times Square’s context of advertising and commercial culture, Alfredo Jaar’s animation A Logo for America displays the statement “This is not America” emblazoned across the outline of the United States. Through an apparently contradictory juxtaposition, the work challenges the fact that the word “America” is routinely but erroneously applied to just one part of the American continent. Originally displayed in 1987 on the Spectacolor Sign in Times Square, the 2014 reiteration of this intervention points out that, almost 30 years later, the representation of an entire continent is still monopolized by the same, single country.

With a life-long passion for art, Karen Hansen graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis with a degree in Fine Art. That was followed with a 22 year career in the field of animation. The filmmaking took her to studios all over the world in a fascinating and challenging industry but painting full time was always her dream. She has been painting full time since 2001.

Hansen's paintings have been exhibited all over the United States in both group and solo shows and can be found in collections across the country. She has received numerous awards and commissions. For one of her awards she submitted a drawing for a Minneapolis “Art for Architecture” competition. The design was for a manhole cover design reflecting life in the city. Her image was selected, cast in brass and installed in the sidewalk outside the Minneapolis City Center. Also, in 2006 she was published in the book, Best of California Artists and Artisans and was awarded second place in the Acrylic Painting category.

In a statement about her paintings she writes, "Our hectic, complex lives are filled with tension. My paintings are resting places filled with tranquillity and balance. I try to create work that is luminous, serene and introspective. It’s a process of improvisation, experimentation, discovery, revision and intuition. And pure fun.” The result has been described as poetry.

Hansen is a native of Chicago. In 1985, after many brutal winters in the Midwest, she came to the Los Angeles area and fell in love with sun-drenched Southern California. She now makes her home in

Burbank with her husband and her cat.

Shame this place no longer exists. We tried to go back this year and were caught by site security before we even crossed the road to go near the asylum. Here's a shot from last year. We stayed in the single room shooting for around 30 minutes and started getting cocky. We carried on searching the hospital, avoiding security. We then went through a door and were literally left facing a security guard, we went to run but decided to hand ourselves in for the easy exit, after all fake names don't mean much.

One would think this is a message to the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government: separation of powers, congressional oversight, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, right to a speedy and fair trial, role of the judiciary. But, no, it is instead a protest to the Tacoma City Council. Nevertheless, constitutions do matter. At least I hope so.

You know, today I really don't have a fun or witty story for this picture. It's more of a statement shot. I feel like this describes the world's view on the Holocaust right now, that yes it happened, but it's in the past, it's out of focus, and we'd rather focus on prettier, nicer, more pleasant things. This picture was taken from near the top of Mount Herzl.
