Their mission statement has been "to change lives of grass root artisans through education and capacity building so that they may stand on their own feet & become more aware of fair working conditions and environment in order to prove the value & beauty of their hand made products".
Noah`s Ark was set up in response to the exploitation of poor artisans, by Samuel Masih in 1986, in one room in his house as an alternative way of trading with local crafts people around his hometown of Moradabad, northern India.
From the beginning he was determined to ensure that artisans would be provided with the best rates of pay available and with the support to enable them to be freed from the grip of exploitation.
With Samuel’s resourcefulness the business has prospered: now there are more than 500 artisans are working for Noah`s Ark choosing Fair Trade employment to create better opportunities for their families and their communities.
And it is about more than just fair wages. Noah's Ark provides education classes for 50 local children who do not have the opportunity to go to school in Moradabad.
Each worker is given provision for school expenses, loans for house repairs and healthcare insurance. A social worker is also employed to support the wider needs of the employees and their families and communities.

Intellectual Copyright: As of this morning I'm pretty darn sure someone has taken an image of mine without permission, possibly more than one. Despite my privacy and permission being set, from day one of being active on Flickr, so that only I can download and print my images and not allowing 3rd party sharing, etc, it still can (and will) happen from what I can tell.
The insult added to this injury is the fact that this person actually contacted me enquiring about buying a print of this image. I'm participating in a public forum for myriad reasons, but having my pictures misappropriated is not one of them. Not impressed!

The art of auto advertising really came of age in the 1960's, and nobody could do it better than illustrator Art Fitzgerald, whose work in magazine ads wove visual fantasies of parking your Pontiac in beautiful, scenic locations and then partying with VIP's and beautiful people. As the owner of a 1965 Pontiac Le Mans, i sometimes bought into that fantasy, but usually my day-dream was tempered by having to take it in for repairs, and the auto mechanics there were not on the waiting list for the international jet-set.

Here is our Mission Statement shared with employees during our Spring 2012 Employee Update Meetings.
Nowhere is there such an intersection of cultures as in New York City. As an immigrant who has lived in New York for 10 years, traveling among the five boroughs using public transportation is still fascinating and exciting; being in this city can feel like visiting another country. People celebrate the customs and holidays of their country by wearing folk costumes on the street. Awnings with messages in entirely unfamiliar alphabets are completely common. Many of them advertise goods catering to specific nationalities and cultures, especially foods that were brought here or requested by immigrants living in neighborhoods like Brighton Beach, Jackson Heights, or Flushing. The packaging of these products is a form of art that tells stories and helps remind people that their culture is alive. In this way, immigrants in New York City can prevent the fading of identification with their native culture.
Blender is my ongoing project in which I investigate the diverse immigrant cultures in New York City. The project includes photos of the packaging of food products from various neighborhoods with a large immigrant influence accompanied by texts (short stories as well as notes on the history, culture, and trivia relating to immigrant-heavy areas), maps, and a website. I’m showing photos and presenting short texts on the New York City neighborhoods where the photographed food products can be found. The look of these food packages often has an old-fashioned feel: bright, saturated colors and outmoded designs that are rare in both Japan, where I’m from, and America, where I now live. Through this project I hope to show that art can transcend time and language even through the simplest imagery found on a candy wrapper. Blender is a lens into New York's immigrant communities and cultures.

Foundation stone 12 Oct 1870 by John Hart, architect Daniel Garlick, opened 12 Jul 1871 on land purchased from W Lewis, lecture hall added 1874. The two-storey Soldiers Memorial Hall opened 18 Oct 1929, renovated 1936. The Institute had been founded 1858.

MSfit Opens For People Living with multiple sclerosis

A young man’s vision and the collaboration between WSSU’s Department of Physical Therapy and the Gateway YWCA have come together to form MSfit, a free fitness and wellness program offered to people living with MS.

It was the brainchild of WSSU alumni and former WSSU employee Brian Murrill, whose mother Patsy Murrill is living with multiple sclerosis. She was diagnosed in 1995. She is a teacher at North Hills Elementary School.
"It's been a challenging yet rewarding experience seeing this program come together. I originally came up with this concept in January of 2013 to honor my mother. My original goal was to create a program that would directly address the physical and emotional needs of people living with MS,” said Brian. He said since then his organization has developed key partnerships with the Gateway YWCA, National MS Society, and the WSSU Department of Physical Therapy.
Here is his view of the future for the program. “Today we have three main objectives: the first one is to provide the MS community with a free fitness and wellness program that is designed to improve the quality of life of our participants and their families. The second one is to take the results from our program and share them with physicians to better understand the role fitness and wellness plays in managing MS. The last one is to create an opportunity for graduate level PT students to get hands on experience working with our participants. MS is the most common disabling neurological disease of young adults in the U.S. It is our hope to grow this program and improve the overall quality of life of as many participants as we can. When you support MSfit, you are empowering people to move beyond their MS by giving them the knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors, actively co-manage their disease and live their best lives through health and wellness," Brian said.
The MSFit clinic is a free clinic where screenings occur for multiple sclerosis patients, along with development of an exercise program, and education on the exercise protocol for the clients at the YWCA.
MSfit officially opened its doors to participants January 26th at the Gateway YWCA, in Winston-Salem, NC, from 1-5 p.m. Since MSfit announced the launch of the program in October, it has received an overwhelming response from potential participants.
Prior to beginning the program, participants are required to complete an initial fitness screening that will gauge their level of ability. The screenings were conducted by the Winston-Salem State University Department of Physical Therapy (PT).
Dr. Sara Migliarese, a physical therapy professor at WSSU, said, “The WSSU Department of Physical Therapy is excited about the partnership with MSfit. Our third-year students performed the fitness screenings and developed exercise programs for the clients with MS based on their abilities.”
“Under the supervision of DPT faculty, the students will educate each client on safe and effective exercise using the YWCA facilities, classes, and equipment. This service-learning opportunity will benefit the students, as well as the clients, and the WSSU PT Club is already involved in early fundraising activities to help support the MSfit Foundation and cover the cost of the YWCA memberships for the MS clients. WSSU is committed to the success and sustainability of this community service,” Migliarese continued.
As a part of their coursework, the WSSU Department of PT will return to the Gateway YWCA once a month to reevaluate participants and document their successes.
