A heavy fog last night coated everything with a hoar frost. I always love the effect on all the small branches.
This is a red squirrel eating rose hips. So I'm sure his vitamin C is up to date.
Just returned from a wonderful two weeks in the north of Scotland with Steviethewaspwhisperer and Blackbearjim. One of the first of many things they had lined up for me was red squirrels, which I've been wanting to see for years. Of course, as Stevie pointed out the squirrels are all red up there, so to them they are "just squirrels" :-)
Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) hiding on a tree. Dogs are running below, that's dangerous!
Wiewiórka (Sciurus vulgaris) ukrywająca się na drzewie. Na dole biegają psy, jest niebezpiecznie!
A quick visit to Morton Lochs (before the car park and hides are closed for renovation for next week) where the squirrels are feverishly stocking up their winter larders. Always on the move and at times just too close for my 300mm lens. I noticed several of them had obvious signs of squirrel pox/leprosy which was sad to see, but didn't seem to slow down those affected. This individual appeared to have no obvious signs, so hopefully some have immunity.
Squirrels breed once or twice a year and give birth to a varying number of young after three to six weeks, depending on species. The young are born naked, toothless, and blind. In most species of squirrel, only the female looks after the young, which are weaned at around six to ten weeks of age and become sexually mature at the end of their first year

I finally got this picture when this restless friend, who was hiding from me, looked at the camera.

Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) in action, running up and down at top speed, while circling the trunk. Fun to look at too...
This squirrel was eating the sunflower seeds the birds knocking of the feeder above. I now have two squirrels that stop by in the mornings.

A squirrel to some is a squirrel,
To others, a squirrel's a squirl.
Since freedom of speech is the birthright of each,
I can only this fable unfurl:
A virile young squirrel named Cyril,
In an argument over a girl,
Was lambasted from here to the Tyrol
By a churl of a squirl named Earl.

Get this shot when I was just testing my new lens our backyard. So it was maby fifth shot with this Tamron :) I think its mushroom what he eats..

Squirrels from 17-mile Drive.
These squirrels are very curious. Instead of running away from me, they ran toward me, examining my camera lens.

Fun and games watching the cheeky squirrels on Brownsea Island. A big thank you to the people who view or comment on my photos and also add them as favourites.
It's been several months since I've encountered Harold. I'm happy to report he is still living the good life and is busy stocking up for winter. I parked down the street from his hang out on Pine Street, and when I got out of the car there he was sitting under the car behind me with a peanut in his mouth. By the time I walked to my destination and past the front security for the building he was back at the window for more peanuts. He seems to be a little thinner than last fall, but perhaps his escapades through the building keep him trim and lean.
