I nice and simple shot of a red squirrel with all the elements that I like; bushy upright tail and white belly on show. www.ChrisDraperPhotography.com shared with pixbuf.com

I spent a very cold but very rewarding couple of hours up at Snaizeholme in the Yorkshire Dales photographing the red squirrels there. This is the first time I've ever seen them, let alone take a picture of one, so I was very happy with the results. I love its stripy ears!

Red squirrels are widespread in Scotland (around 75 per cent of the UK population) – especially the Highlands, but also Southern Scotland and Fife – and in Northern Ireland.

The best places in southern England to see red squirrels are the Isle of Wight and Brownsea Island, in Poole Harbour.

Elsewhere in England and Wales, there are pockets on Anglesey and in northern England, such as Cumbria, Kielder Forest and a noted concentration of red squirrels around Formby.

I caught this fella hanging out. He had just finished eating an acorn and was chilling on the back of a bench at Hermann Park in Houston.

Soon I will have some more squirrels at my doorstep looking for food. This is a nursing female. I have no idea what kind of goodie she found, but she obviously like it.

New to our garden yesterday, this tiny little squirrel has made himself very much at home!

A squirrel enjoying his lunch in Parc La Fontaine in Montréal. Not quite sure what the little fellow is eating, at first site it looks like some sort of a pod.
