When outside on the patio, Noa hardly ever loafs or flops in the middle of the open space. She very much prefers to be huddled up to something on at least one side. Three sides is even better 😄

I always love the smell of fresh lime, here's a shot of one being squeezed for MacroMondays and the 'Citrus' theme.

We returned to St John's to end our trip and spend time with friends. I got a few chances to get out to shoot some of the sights including this one. This small sedan is wider than the home it fronts. As well, the similar colored homes to each side add to the effect framing the yellow home. It all seemed so very squeezed yet colorful. The white car in front served as the bristles of a painters brush with the pavement the black handle.

Soho buses and a jaywalker.

Skinny jeans and boots are practically the uniform for a casual look hereabouts, so it pays to follow the trend particularly when mingling with large crowds. I don't see why I cannot choose a dressy top, however.

This is me returning from a show in the Edinburgh Fringe. I rode the bus through the city centre because parking is horrendous, squeezed through big crowds gathered around street performances, popped in to buy some makeup, queued to get in to the show and sat in a makeshift theatre for ninety minutes amongst members of the public. If anyone thought I was out of place, they did not show it.

One bizarre moment surprised me. After the show we all filed out and I looked for the bar - purely to meet the cast, you understand. I must have appeared lost because the woman behind me, the one I had been sitting beside for over an hour, asked "Are you looking for the ladies? It's in here."

I was astounded that she had not worked out that I am trans when we had been so close for so long - and at a show about transwomen! What more of a clue did she need? On the other hand, perhaps she was simply being correct and sympathetic. Either way is good for me. This incident pleased me and then I went on to meet some of the cast, which was even more amazing!

Squeeze! Several lizardlings popped out of this crack in a wooden post on Woodham Fen, but this is the only one that hung around for a shot!

There were semi trucks hitting this overpass all the time because the height of it wasn’t marked very good. This is another accident that resulted from it not being tall enough. A shot I took from this sequence was picked up by some local newspapers.

For this shot I really had to squeeze myself between the cabins to shoot ultra-wide. I almost got stuck.

First I wanted to remove the sunny bit on the side of the cabin by either cloning a bit of the left side and flip it, or cloning the shadowy part of the right hand side into the sunny part. The results were just ugly. I *could* spend a few hours more in Photoshop, but in the end I thought is was just too artificial. I guess I'll come back on another sunny day when the sun is just right. Probably early in the morning.

Rebuilt GE AC44C6M 4127 led NS 24M as the Baltimore-bound intermodal woke up the town of Port Deposit on the former PRR Port Road Branch.

Once electrified, NS has pretty much sterilized this trackage and daylight moves have been relatively rare. Recently there has been an uptick in daylight trains. Let's hope it continues.

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday

In doing a little research on song lyrics, I found there are currently nearly 20,000 songs that use the phrase “squeeze me tight” in them. Out of those songs, probably no songwriter was thinking about the Cooper’s Hawk when he or she wrote those words.

But the words are certainly applicable as the Cooper’s Hawk is one of the few flying predators that catch their prey in their feet and repeatedly squeeze them until it dies which in itself is effective but not very romantic. In addition, Cooper’s Hawks will sometimes fly into a body of water and hold their victim underwater until it stops moving.

This smaller hawk is also one of the most agile and flies with abandon through tree tops in reckless pursuit of prey. One study of over 300 Cooper’s Hawk skeletons, nearly a quarter of them showed old, healed broken bones in the chest from crashing into limbs, etc. Exciting life.

The flaring of the tail feathers is sometimes the hawk’s effort to dry out its feathers while some observers think it could also be a signal the bird is alarmed or trying to make itself look bigger to an enemy. The particular morning last week when I took this photo the tall grass where it was hunting was heavy with dew so it might have been drying out.
