Trying to squeeze out - The night before fledging these two little ones were both trying to peek out the same hole. This was my biggest goal for shooting the Screech Owls this year. This happened about 45 minutes after sunset and the scene was very dark. From about 20 feet away, I could not see the owls and had to use settings on my camera I would normally avoid.

The Minnesota Commercial squeezes though Hawkins between Hennepin Avenue and 33rd Street after working Interplastic and Eureka Recycling further up the Hennepin Industrial Lead.
When I was about 9, my school friends and I called snowberries* "squeeze berries." Why? We would pick them in the fall on the way home from school. Then we would hold one between thumb and index finger, point it at another kid and squeeze. A little clear stream squirted out and made a wet spot on the other kid's clothes; preferably the front of their trousers. Being kids, we thought that was really funny. Did you do this too?
*The snowberry, Symphoricarpos albus, is native to North America, but these days it is planted in hedge rows and gardens all over Western Europe. Why? It is a great landscaping plant because it is reasonably attractive, and tolerates about anything: lots of sun or shade, heat or cold, dryness or wetness.
Birds and animals eat snowberries, but they are slightly toxic to humans.

I managed to squeeze in a bit of brick therapy during the past few weeks.
This is small cargo shuttle, that I've been building over the last five weeks or so. This ship is intended to be the space equivalent of a box truck, like this. I imagine this particular ship as having a lot of light-years under its belt, used for longer journeys than originally intended, so there's a hammock in the cargo bay. As I explained above, I had a lot of time to think about this creation, even if I didn't have much time to build or blog. I also imagined the that it might not always have been docked in the nicest of space neighborhoods, so I built after I took some photos, I covered it in graffiti.

...quite literally. As you enter, the place has only five rotating chrome stools neatly tucked under a lunch counter on the right covered in circa 1970 orange Formica that's worn through to the wood beneath from nearly 50 years of elbows and there's only about a foot of space between the stools and the wall to the left. It's tight quarters.
They've been there on the main drag at 448 1/2 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, since 1945. The menu is simple, native Kunzler brand dogs served with a variety of toppings on steam warmed buns, Good's brand potato chips from PA Amish Country, and a choice of soda's in the can and bottle on display in a glass-front refrigerator located behind the counter. I had the sweet chili on one dog and sauerkraut on the other. The sweet chili was reminiscent (to me anyway) of the chili served over spaghetti I've had when in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Their prices are reasonable but, heck, that neon hotdog glowing over the door is more than worth the price of admission.

We were trying to get out the door, but first she insisted on giving Puddy a goodbye squeeze. Then I had to pull my camera out and well, long story short, we ended up being late.
Low hanging tree branches scrape along the side of Pan Am's PORU (Portland - Rumford) as it negotiates the S-curve in Livermore Falls between Main St. and Depot St. MEC 504 leads two Guilford painted brethren and 53 cars east (compass west), only a couple miles out from Riley's, where they will be recrewed before continuing on to Rumford.
It doesn't seem that long ago that I could have just jumped up on this slab of rock and sped across to the other side, then jumped down and continued on my merry way. No pain, no worries.
As Karen demonstrates, this is the new normal. We now have to wriggle, bend, pull, and grunt, to get over, around, behind even minor obstacles on our hiking adventures.
A bit of struggle usually, sometimes a lot of struggle. BUT, we still go! Not time for TV, movies, cruise ships, or the recliner - we have places to go and things to do. And time is wastin'!

I was really hoping for an image of a swallow in flight this morning. They're very busy this time of year and very fast. I just couldn't keep them or get them in my viewfinder though. My consolation prize: I thought this was pretty cute - 3rd Barn Swallow squeezes in between the other two on the launch pad railing at the lake edge.
