Whilst it's inevitable that newer buildings will crowd around the classis and well-known structures in a city, they can at least leave space for those older places to be seen. This alley then, was a nice way of still seeing a large chunk of St. Pauls from a distance.

Clouds wafting through a v shaped top of the Mount Ushba.
Ushba (4,710m). One of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. Known also as the "Matterhorn of the Caucasus" for its picturesque, spire-shaped double summit.

Exposed film pack out in the sun then squeezed out all of the chemicals before working with ink.
From the time I dropped off Molly at dance, until I was to pick her up, I had 90 minutes. I'd been looking for a moment to visit the Congaree Swamp. It's been a LONG time since it was swampy, but we've had so much rain this winter and early spring. I heard on NPR that the Cedar Creek was navigable by canoe again, so I decided to squeeze in a walk, however short.
Of course with a round-trip of 60 minutes I had less than 30 minutes in the swamp. I used it. It gave me about a half mile in and a dozen photos.
It was a thickly overcast morning with extreme wind. Occasionally, the sun would find a break in the clouds and because it was early, the light was very low and harsh. low, harsh, directional light reflecting off swamp water makes for impossible shots. I took them anyway to remind myself I rushed through morning to get 30 minutes in the woods.
House prices in NZ have gone up like crazy. People with a bit of spare land are building to cash in. Now there is a severe building supply shortage. Hmmm.

This alleyway is an example of what people mean when they call the old medina a maze or a labyrinth. It is just as narrow as it appears in this image. If I recall correctly, there is a right turn up ahead and then a dead end.

As I walk around the countryside, admiring the skill of the stone wall builders, I'm often mystified by the apparent crudeness of some of the old gate posts, and structures like this squeeze stile (which is the tight gap in a wall that allows people to pass, but not sheep and cattle).
A local archaeologist confirmed my suspicions: they are most often standing stones from 3000 years ago that a farmer will have moved in the distant past to help make a wall or gatepost and free-up space on a paddock. And that's why there aren't as many stone circles as one might expect to find.
So now I know; and so do you!
