A former modernist industry building where metal and aluminium frames for windows, facades and doors were constructed is being deconstructed. A worker is using a blowtorch to remove the metal support structure of the roof.

'Squeezing out sparks' is a pivotal album of Graham Parker and the Rumour. Together with the American and UK punk albums it turned out to be the way out of the stagnation and complacency of rock music of the 2nd half of the 70s (think symphonic and prog rock).

This is number 91 of the Gloriously dilapidated album and 93 of Tavira.
I thought it was interesting how the building appears to be getting squeezed by the bridge ramps.

Hi flickr folks, this view was shot from the new landfill at Rijnhaven. The landfill is ruining one of the best evening shot spots of Rotterdam (Kop van Zuid with reflections), but we'll get some new/different options now I guess - like this one. Oh well...
With the indispensable HOYA HD MkII circular polarizer to bring the sky back in and kill a lot of reflections.

Whilst it's inevitable that newer buildings will crowd around the classis and well-known structures in a city, they can at least leave space for those older places to be seen. This alley then, was a nice way of still seeing a large chunk of St. Pauls from a distance.
A couple of SD70MACs glow in the last bit of evening light just south of Bragdon, Colorado on the Pikes Peak Sub.
Thousands of limestone islands and islets create a stunning and distinctive landscape in Halong Bay. It's true what they say about it being a major tourist attraction. I couldn't believe the boat traffic!

House prices in NZ have gone up like crazy. People with a bit of spare land are building to cash in. Now there is a severe building supply shortage. Hmmm.
This alleyway is an example of what people mean when they call the old medina a maze or a labyrinth. It is just as narrow as it appears in this image. If I recall correctly, there is a right turn up ahead and then a dead end.

Ushba (4,710m). One of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. Known also as the "Matterhorn of the Caucasus" for its picturesque, spire-shaped double summit.

A busy day at the West Somerset railway 50th anniversary 2026.
Railway carriage layouts in the UK evolved gradually rather than changing on a single date, but the shift away from separate corridor compartments mostly happened between the 1950s and 1970s.

Our "Viking Atla" transport was a small 'longboat'. This monster ship certainly had the right-of-way - imagine what happens in towns when it docks!

As I walk around the countryside, admiring the skill of the stone wall builders, I'm often mystified by the apparent crudeness of some of the old gate posts, and structures like this squeeze stile (which is the tight gap in a wall that allows people to pass, but not sheep and cattle).
A local archaeologist confirmed my suspicions: they are most often standing stones from 3000 years ago that a farmer will have moved in the distant past to help make a wall or gatepost and free-up space on a paddock. And that's why there aren't as many stone circles as one might expect to find.
So now I know; and so do you!
