Colorado Springs, CO - Thankfully we have a lot of more snow in the mountains now than we did at this time last year. With winter less than a month away I wonder how much of the fluffy white stuff we are getting this season?

What I do know is, with the mountains so close and covered in snow my Jeep is making plans.

Critique welcome.

Ran into a caterpillar with an interesting defense system. It became aware of me & instantly tucked its head out of sight. I was left looking at one end with large threatening eyes and the other end with a wicked looking stinger. Both totally fake, of course. Works well with would-be predators.

One of the easiest waterfalls that I've ever been to is located about 10-15 minutes from my house. I can literally park about 25 or 30 feet from where I am standing to take this photo and casually walk right over to the river and falls. Just one of the wonderful hidden gems of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau...

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

The Gardens at Spring Creek here in Fort Collins really outdid themselves this year for their annual Garden of Lights display for the holidays. I was particularly impressed by this flower bed display made completely of LED Christmas lights. If you are in the area, be sure to visit! For more information, visit this link.

And from our family to yours, we wish you all the best this holiday season!

Shot Notes: after I cloned out some of the extension cords that make this all possible I felt less guilty about adding the moon for that ultimate Christmas mood. Come on snow! ;-)))

First of my 13 visits to Brown's Falls.

I've heard that running water purifies itself every one hundred feet. I do not know whether this is true but when I compare it to how I try to purify myself in one year intervals it gets me to thinking about the futility of my yearly resolutions. It seems that one hundred feet would be a better distance to travel between my good deeds. I'm thinking of getting one of those pedestrian odometers and giving it a whirl.

Meanwhile, here's wishing all of my friends in Flickrland a very Happy New Year and a wonderful 2013. Whether your resolution is to create, re-create, procreate, meditate, hesitate, desecrate, or salivate I hope that you find yourself being a little bit kinder to one another in the coming year and even more so to those that don't seem to deserve it.

I leave you with this little Cherokee Blessing that I've always loved:

May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house.

May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there.

May your mocassins make happy tracks in many snows,

and may the rainbow always touch your shoulder.

I climbed back up to the trail and took one last look at the falls.

Sorry about the odd framing, but I wanted to avoid the people who were down by the bottom of the falls.

Queen Mary Falls are situated in Australia's Main Range National Park and descend 40 metres from the McPherson Range near the Queensland/New South Wales border. The falls are currently retreating as large blocks at the bottom of the falls were not evident in photos taken in the 19th century.

This is life as I see it--beautiful, dynamic, fluid, full of rocks, and ever changing. I read today from the Dhammapada. I read this:

Better than a thousand meaningless statements

Is one meaningful word,

Which, having been heard,

Brings peace.

A nice recipe for navigating the rocks.

Many thanks to my Flickr contact and new friend Darrell Robinson for showing me this beautiful place.

Very peaceful on black.

I am constantly amazed at how many different species of stink bugs can be found in DFW. I have 12 species so far and there are still many here I have not run across yet.
