Spring Creek Dam

Both look well feed one of the Bullfrogs has an injury on the nose, these two are always together and they a bit darker in color than other American Bullfrogs but Bullfrogs can be totally brown in color. This is the third year I seen them there they doing well responsible for lots of offspring.

I had to be quick to take the shot before Lucy spotted them

My good friend Scott and I were out driving up the Forest Service road along Spring Creek looking for photo ops. Scott saw some movement along the stream bank so we stopped and got out. This little guy was making his way upstream so we scampered along the road as he scampered along the stream. Our initial reaction was "river otter!" as we quickly looked at our lcd screens on our cameras and then we moved on, searching for more wary and usually unwilling subjects.

When I had the chance to view on my computer, I wasn't so sure. We had seen river otters before, along the East River and I had seen them in Florida as well. But this face was different. As was its size, much smaller than I remembered.

Off to Google search and sure enough, it is not an otter but a mink! A first for me (and Scott) in the wild. Mistaken ID in a good way!

Thanks so much for your views, faves and comments!

I thought this was another migrating Monarch, but it turned out to be a migrating Queen. Absolutely beautiful in the sunlight.

Juniper Creek, shot from state road 19 as it crosses near the Juniper Wayside. Juniper forms one of Florida's most interesting if challenging paddle runs, which ends on the other side of the bridge from this shot. Its fiercely winding course combined with a narrow width has given rise to the nickname the "Divorce Run".

This is an HDR that I took last year. About a month after I took this photo, this bridge was destroyed by a massive flood of Spring Creek, which it crossed. This covered bridge led to my brother-in-laws family's trail ride. It was built by his Grandfather. It was very sad for them when it was destroyed. He and my sister were married in front of it.

Geese in Spring Creek, Near Amherst, WI

On our walk back from the wetlands a pair of Sandhills Cranes made their way thru the grasslands just a few few yards ahead of us.

There was a short climb down to the creek level. It was a little tricky with a camera backpack and tripod but doable. I'm glad I went. I really liked the face on view of the falls.

Sunset yesterday. We had a high of 52 degrees here today... not much snow and ice left. A high of 29 with snow predicted for tomorrow... that's more like it.

This waterfall is located on private property.

Feeling super-energized this morning [at least I keep telling myself that :b] and I'm about to head to the gym! Yesterday's sun was short-lived. It's back below zero [way below], and the sky is the most perfect shade of British Grey. ;)

///Edit: The sun came out! Swapped the gym clothes for UnderArmour and went for a run in the Arctic. Felt amazing aside from the near-frostbitten fingers. It is -8, after all.. :)

Have a great weekend!

Another shot from my hike along Spring Creek yesterday. It was in the mid 40's here today, water running everywhere. I still have a four foot pile of snow down both sides of my driveway, but that won't last much longer. I think I'm finally ready for spring.

Taken on March 17, 2011 during one of my 13 visits to Brown's Falls since 2004.

Brown's Falls originates from natural spring water coming to the surface in an area beside the house shown in the photo.

He was artistic & precise with that long tongue.

I was very excited when I spotted this bright orange jumping spider. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it was new for me. He was very active crawling & jumping all over the greenery so it was quite challenging to get a few shots. I have the id now from experts. No common name.
