A frequently visited waterfall just minutes from our house in Cookeville, Spring Creek Waterfall in Waterloo, Tennessee is almost too easy to access and an amazing find that is not on many peoples radar. It is actually so easy to access that, on this trip, my mother-in-law tagged along and loved seeing the waterfall from above and below (as seen in this photo). Not seen in this photo was a family with small children that were swimming and having a great time. One of my favorite sites for a day trip or even less since it's so close...

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

We had severe storms moving through this region with lots of rain/ The creek rose over 4ft higher and flooded some forest areas including floodplains and marshes out. Some areas further north had severe flooding houses and roads are in deep water and flood waters are still rising. Certain areas are closed off.

Ice Abstract #1/ Spring Creek

Here is the view from above Hoge Pass, looking toward the world's largest non-polar icefields in Kluane. Taken from the Kluane Ranges or Front Ranges, which average about 8,000 feet elevation. The Icefield Ranges are something else, with multiple peaks hitting 16,000 feet or more. Access to that zone is by air only - light plane or helicopter. Separating the two are big rivers and enormous glaciers.

From the pass, you can see a steep canyon leading down to the Donjek River Valley. I hiked down there with two companions a couple of years earlier. It was tricky. Recently a solo hiker had a mishap and died there; his body was not recovered until the following summer. At the bottom, the winding, gravelly Hoge Creek twists its way to drop over a ledge and disappear into the Donjek River, flowing left to right. Across the valley is the alluvial fan of Spring Creek.

There was a rough trail through the forest, going left (south) from Hoge Creek, and this brought us to some good camping spots near the mighty Donjek Glacier, 35 miles long before it empties into the river. I came face to face with a wolf on that trail. Fifteen to twenty feet away, so I had a good look - for about two seconds. It whirled away and vanished into the bushes in a flash.

On this solo trip in 1984, I didn't attempt the Hoge Creek descent, but instead stayed in the high country, walking the ridges for about a week before packing out. I had to pinch myself repeatedly to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It was incredible - rugged and spectacular beyond words.

It is actually not altered at all it developed like this due light conditions of the pond. Freshly fallen bur oak leaf just underneath a large oak branch. Dabbled light

Sexton eventually made it past Lawrence and secured a first place win in Moto 1 and doing the same again in Moto 2, as well.

Here I pulled in the focal length to zoom in on the view of the famous waterfall in this national park. I set up my Nikon SLR camera on a tripod and used a CamRanger hooked into my iPhone to compose and then expose the image captured.

Two Otters in photo, one is emerging in the backgound producing a pattern of two sets of concentric circles.

This is the fish ladder I mentioned in a couple of recent posts. Bonneville cutthroat trout exit Bear Lake and work their way up the ladder to enter St Charles creek where they spawn. Wild Cutthroats were nearly extinct in Bear Lake before several projects restored access to spawning streams. Ice covers most of each section of the ladder this time of year.

Another image captured while enjoying a morning under overcast skies in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. With another image captured, I'd pulled back on the focal length in order to capture more of the surrounding setting for this famous waterfall. Here I decided to zoom in on the focal length and…basically focus on the waterfall itself with a little bit of the surrounding landscape to add as kind of a framing for the final image. This was another image where I set up my Nikon SLR camera on a tripod and used a CamRanger with iPhone to compose and meter this long exposure shutter speed.

Near Palmer, AK. The locals were happy to see the swans back early this year, and I enjoyed seeing them.

I Saw Water Fall from the Sky as Rain One Day in Ohio

A few drops fell upon my face and dampened my clothes

Other drops fell on the grass to add water for nourishment

It was only later when I walked to Blue Hen Falls

That I met the other drops as they fell over the edge in a waterfall

And crashed on the rocks below in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one mooning in Cuyahoga Valley National Park at Blue Hen Falls. With the rains that I'd seen on my drive from Kentucky and Mammoth Cave National Park, I'd wondered if I'd have good weather to enjoy for hiking. Little did I appreciate that this rain would bring waters that would allow me to capture a long exposure image of this famous waterfall.

For the image captured, I was then able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted. I finished up post-processing work in Capture NX2 by adding a few CEP filters (Low Key and Darken/Lighten Center) for the final image.

Sunset near Field Store in Waller County, Texas.

Spring Creek (St Charles Creek on some maps) is one of the inlets to Bear Lake, Idaho. This photo was taken next to a concrete fish ladder that creates enough turbulance to keep a small area from freezing, and a flimsy fence keeps photographers from falling in. HFF

Ice formations formed by water splashing against the walls of a concrete fish ladder has frozen into wonderful patterns. These reminded me of frozen feet.

This was taken a few minutes before my previous post. If you have followed me for any period of time, this scene might look familiar. I got out of work a little late today, and by the time I got to this preserve I didn't have time to scout around, so I headed for a favorite spot. There were mink tracks in the snow beside the water. My apologies to you if you are tiring of seeing variations on this composition.

Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers. ...from a drive through the Main Range National Park to Queen Mary Falls.

Main Range National Park is on the western part of the Scenic Rimâa spectacular arc of mountains stretching from Mount Mistake to Springbrook in South East Queensland. It comprises 30,170.5 ha and is managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS).

In December 1994, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially declared the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage AreaExternal link icon over the Scenic Rim (including most of Main Range and Mount Barney national parks and nearly all of Lamington and Springbrook national parks) and the rainforests of northern and central New South Wales.

As part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, Main Range is an extremely important refuge for many animals. These include a species of land snail, the beautiful Richmond birdwing butterfly, endangered birds (e.g. the eastern bristlebird), amphibians such as the Fleay's barred frog, and mammals such as the spotted-tailed quoll and the Hastings River mouse. Main Range National Park plays a vital role in protecting this rich diversity of globally-significant wildlife.

Differences in the mountains' topography, altitude, aspect and soil characteristics lead to diversity in the park's plant communities, which range from subtropical and cool temperate rainforest to wet and dry sclerophyll forest, montane heath and rock pavement vegetation.

A setting on a walk bridge over Spring Creek with a view looking to the west. With the little bit of sunlight coming through the mostly cloudy skies, I decided to take advantage of that to capture this image. Composing the image was a matter of finding that angle that allowed me to capture a sweeping view with this creek as it flowed on by me. In a sense I was using it as a leading line that cut through the forest. Metering though took a little more effort in order to find a good enough shutter speed so that I wouldn't blow as many highlights as I thought I might while capturing all the vivid colors around me in the more shadowed areas. I was later able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

The rising sun turned the snow covered branches orange.

Lucy walking around in spring creek always trying to get to the other side looking mostly for frogs but no frogs here. I walked with her for awhile in the shallow water of the creek.
