A split tone of a great old dead tree I found right inside the Bluff Spring Fen in Elgin Il. I loved how the exposed wood twisted around the trunk and created a really great texture. Add to that the "arms" at the top and it felt like something out of my worst "Lord of the Rings" nightmare. I felt the need to accentuate this nightmarish quality with some editing and split tone.

Yes I know this is very similar to yesterday's image but I like it so much. There is a bleak, helplessness about it which for some reason, appealed/spoke to me. I was also very busy at work, annoyingly! ;-)
Blue Moon shot 2, Melbourne, 31 Aug 2012, 10:46pm. Unfortunately there was thick and consistent cloud cover hiding the Blue Moon from us, but the glow was still there so I had to make do with taking pics of the Oak tree and the moons glow behind the clouds. I actually think it worked out better than my last moon shot as there was some element of interest beyond just a moon. Lets face it, someone with a much bigger lens will take a much sharper and more detailed moon shot than I could ever take :)

Its hard not to smile and even harder to resist taking a photo of the Herdwick sheep, especially when they pose so perfectly for you. Taken on a hike up to Haystacks near Buttermere in the spring
Here's another example of using split-toning in Lightoom to bring more warmth and depth of light to the image. This is a more dramatic change from the original because of more light to work with.

I didn't work too hard on processing the first time around so I also adjusted Exposure, Highlights, and Contrast.

An alternate entry for yesterday's Macro Mondays theme of 'flame'. In this shot I had the matches a little too close together and the chain reaction was over too quickly.
Processed to mono in Silver Efex Pro and then split toning applied in Lightroom.
