A split tone of a great old dead tree I found right inside the Bluff Spring Fen in Elgin Il. I loved how the exposed wood twisted around the trunk and created a really great texture. Add to that the "arms" at the top and it felt like something out of my worst "Lord of the Rings" nightmare. I felt the need to accentuate this nightmarish quality with some editing and split tone.

Number 286 of my 365 photo challenge - A simple, split-toned, macro image of some flowers blooming, late on in the season.

Number 260 of my 365 photo challenge - A split-toned, macro image of some tiny, shrivelled Pinwheel mushrooms with an spider calling them home.

Yes I know this is very similar to yesterday's image but I like it so much. There is a bleak, helplessness about it which for some reason, appealed/spoke to me. I was also very busy at work, annoyingly! ;-)

An alternate version of yesterday's Macro Mondays submission - this time with split toning.

Cloch Lighthouse at high tide with thick cloud and heavy rain

75.5MP 2 Shot Pano Stitch

Blue Moon shot 2, Melbourne, 31 Aug 2012, 10:46pm. Unfortunately there was thick and consistent cloud cover hiding the Blue Moon from us, but the glow was still there so I had to make do with taking pics of the Oak tree and the moons glow behind the clouds. I actually think it worked out better than my last moon shot as there was some element of interest beyond just a moon. Lets face it, someone with a much bigger lens will take a much sharper and more detailed moon shot than I could ever take :)

This is an infrared image - shot in black and white and toned in Lightroom. The "glow" is a hot spot caused by the infrared filter or the lens.

Here's another example of using split-toning in Lightoom to bring more warmth and depth of light to the image. This is a more dramatic change from the original because of more light to work with.

I didn't work too hard on processing the first time around so I also adjusted Exposure, Highlights, and Contrast.

An alternate entry for yesterday's Macro Mondays theme of 'flame'. In this shot I had the matches a little too close together and the chain reaction was over too quickly.

For this week's (Monday 23 April) Macro Mondays theme of 'Plastic' - I prepared this hackneyed composition but switched a real egg for a small plastic one and mounted it atop two small plastic forks. The total extent of the image is about 5" vertically and 2.5" horizontally (including the reflection) which is too big for Macro Mondays' 3" restriction so I thought I'd post it tonight rather than post a cropped version tomorrow - I'll have to use my back-up image for the main event.
