23/365. Funny how a simple snack can turn out to be a better shot than the various other things I tried today.

„Zeitreisende brauchen doch keine fliegenden Untertassen. Engel brauchen keine Raumschiffe.“

Not one of my own creations, this EFE-based mobile cafe was built by Phil Tyler and all I did was add the numberplates. In the days of front engines, converted old buses were a very common sight on the fairground, but nowadays they are virtually extinct so this one is unusual amongst the trailer-mounted kiosks. .
It flew up into this tree and I was wondering what it was doing. Suddenly it pulled a rat it had stashed up there and started to nibble away. ️

.
But it didn’t sit for long , and decided to move and join its sibling in another spot , and then they both disappeared high into the trees. 🌲

Chapulines, plural for chapulín , are grasshoppers of the genus Sphenarium, that are commonly eaten in certain areas of Mexico. The term is specific to Mexico and derives from the Nahuatl word chapolin.
They are collected only at certain times of year (from their hatching in early May through the late summer/early autumn). After being thoroughly cleaned and washed, they are toasted on a comal (clay cooking surface) with garlic, lime juice and salt containing extract of agave worms, lending a sour-spicy-salty taste to the finished product. Sometimes the grasshoppers are also toasted with chili, although it can be used to cover up for stale chapulines
my wife recently came back from a holiday in Taiwan and brought some Taiwanese snacks. it bears a lot of similarities to some philippine snacks but the texture and taste are more subtle. wonderful experience to try food and snacks from other countries . the packaging is very impressive and makes for a good still life capture

I walked around the grounds for a little while, and when I came back, the older horse had saddled up to the fence for a quick snack of dead leaves on a neighboring tree.
I might have liked to have gone up to these horses and petted them and said hello, but one thing my Kentucky heritage taught me is that horses can be worth a lot of money. The horses you see in the pastures around Lexington might be worth a million dollars, and horse people don't always want random folks stopping at their fences and petting their million-dollar horses. The horses here at Danada aren't thoroughbreds and aren't worth a million dollars, but the habit of reticence is seared into me.

My daughter and I did a photo walk and headed to the local Starbucks for a snack. We also took the time to talk about our photos.

MOC: Snack Bar. Part of my Updated Classics series, this is my take on a modern version of the classic set 675.
I've kept the iconic colours of the original set, while trying to build my version in a style that would go well with my modular gas station.
If you add another 16x32 baseplate behind it, for example with some picnic tables, it will fit in a modular layout.
Oh, and the tree? There's an old moulded pine tree in the original set, and I needed something a bit bigger and more realistic - so I challenged my favourite tree builder, Marco ('Ecclesiastes), to come up with something that might work. Put simply, he nailed it in a way I would never have been able to. Thanks, Marco!
