Spur of the moment: I decided to make onion soup. Richard gave plenty of suggestions, nervously watching as I wielded a knife. We used vegetable broth, illustrated in a previous episode.

Since we were already at Denninger's we also got everyone a little treat for later. Since everyone was so brave :)

Slicing some off the lean end. We ended up doing 1.5 lbs of lean and half a pound of fatty. We thought it would be enough for our barbecue-battered senses and appetites. We were wrong.

These onions made me cry! I wish I knew what the difference is between the ones that do and don't. These ones were terribly acrid. And they were just bought new last week at the market!

Instead of an Easter ham, we decided to make Easter Spam.

 

This is my first can of Spam, ever. It took me a while to figure out how to get it out of the can (I used a butter knife).

 

Using my extraordinary powers of eyeball measurement, I sliced these all to exactly 3/8" thick.

Our Daily Challenge 3 - Sliced

Candle light through a slice of petrified cedar.

It started this morning when I marinated the tenderloin in garlic, parsley, olive oil and salt & pepper. I put it in the oven this afternoon with onions, apples, anise & celery. The meal was served sliced into medallions with mashed sweet potatoes, the pan veggies and stuffing.

I think they look a bit like tubular olives. I saw a picture of pickled kelp rings somewhere on flickr - maybe they wouldn't be too bad!
