I cut the pear in two by slicing it ALONG the core. For each half, I make two cuts around the core and slice up each section into bite-sized pieces. I nibble around the core and discard it, and then cut up the other half. Here you see half a pear, a big piece cut from around the core, and the other big piece being sliced up. I eat about a fourth of the pear now and put the other pieces into my fruit mix.

Made from felt, embroidery thread, and polyfill. Pink dots are french knots. I use this slice of cake as a pin cushion.
When I'm running out of time, I peel and gobble down a banana like everybody else, but I prefer to have a variety of fruit. I simply peel off the skin, slice up one or two of them, and add the slices to my fruit mix minus my "today's" share.
What I had was some spicy pork roast with garnished with mushrooms, garlic and vegetables with a little sauce. It came with golden potatoes, some pickles, and a salad of choice. I went for a fresh cabbage and tomato salad here. The name of the dish was something in lines of "Vlad Dracul's Spicy Pork Roast (w/ Golden Potatoes)" or such.
Okay, now that I've reviewed and processed these, I'm hungry again. I guess I'm off for some food, see y'all later! ;)
P.S.: But it will definitely be something much lighter, today. :D

I am fascinated by vintage slicers - this Berkel is no exception. I believe this is a BK Slicer 3 (Blade Diameter: 350 mm), made anywhere between 1918-1922.

Pain perdu, tea jelly, tomato jam.
Served on a room temperature slice of slightly runny, custardy-sweet, maple infused French toast brioche (which was heavy, but the small serving was a nice portion) with tomato jam for the "ketchup," the crumbly-looking, sweetened, bacon-infused double yolk custard (you can taste the intense egg flavour and see it in the ice cream's colour) was both decadent and comforting. Although many others noted that the French toast brioche was their favourite component of the course, mine was the crisp strip of candied prosciutto, which immediately inspired me to attempt the same snack at home. This is another one of Chef Blumenthal's signature dishes – an understandable acclamation.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of crisp versus smooth, dense and creamy, the balance and contrast of sweet versus salty, and the fantastic breakfast presentation – it was even served with a cup of tea (jelly that is)!

for Beefy Beet Borscht.
An old friend of mine, Mitchell Davis, cooks and writes cookbooks, well, that is, among the ten or twelve thousand other things that he does.
This is one of my faves, from his book, "The Mensch Chef, or why delicious Jewish Food isn't an Oxymoron."
It takes several hours to cook, but is always worth the wait!
Recipe:
5 or 6 pieces flanken or beef short ribs (about 4 pounds), with bones, rinsed
4 lagre yellow onions (1 1/2 lbs), sliced
2 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
1 large turnip (1/2 lb), peeled and cubed
1 large parsnip (1/2 lb), peeled and cubed
3 medium carrots (1/2 lb), sliced
12 medium red beets (4 lbs), peeled, cut in strips
1/4 c tomato paste
juice of 8 lemons (about 1 1/4 cups)
6 to 8 tbsps sugar or to taste
1 tbsp caraway seeds
2 tbsp salt
2 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 cup fresh dill
Place the beef, onions, garlic, turnip, parsnip, carrots, beets, tomato paste, lemon juice, sugar, caraway, salt, and pepper in a 10 or 12 quart stockpot. Add about 16 cups cold water. Place the pot over high heat and bring to a boil, about 35 minutes. Using a large spoon, skim off any froth that rises to the top. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, set the lid ajar over the pot and cook, stirring occarionally, for 3.5 hours.
I'm telling ya, it's yummy :)
As far as the pic goes, well, it's out of focus and doesn't do justice to the gorgeous crimson of the beets, oh well, I uh havent yet mastered my snapshot cookin skills...

"The term "slicer" was used to describe computer experts, often self-taught, who excelled at working within a complex computer network, and were able to extract information from this network with great skill. Often, this information was secured by any number and manner of encryption and lockout systems, and a skilled slicer was able to circumvent these systems without triggering alarms."
