Some sights from an all too brief visit to Santa Cruz today. I was there with work so no real time for sight-seeing or getting shots, but I grabbed a few anyway!

Back in NYC I often encountered people clipping their nails on the subway. Then I moved to Hong Kong and now I encounter people slicing their apples with box cutters while riding double-decker buses. As Jerri Blank once said, "changes..."

The kitchen table, the centre of our family. At the moment everyone is away so it sits empty, waiting for four of us to take our seats. It's our centre, our meeting point, talking point and home.
This was taken in the upper portion of Canyonlands National Park. As you can see by the clouds, we got rained on off and on while we were there. By the time we wanted to see Mesa Arch, the rain was really heavy and blowing sideways and we didn't get to see it. These yellow wildflowers were pretty abundant in the area. I don't know if this formation had a name or not, but I'll just call it 'Sliced Rock'.
The yellow one is Azoychka – A very productive Russian heirloom found at the Bird Market in Moscow. (”Azoychka” is a woman’s name.) Produce indeterminate, regular-leaf tomato plants that produce an abundant crop of smooth, 3-inch round, slightly flattened, yellow/orange tomatoes with a sweet citrusy flavor. This is a delightful small yellow beefsteak tomato that matures so early it will be one of the first varieties to ripen in your garden. Beautifully smooth, lemon yellow fruit weighs about 8 ozs. and is very flavorful, rich but pleasantly sweet with a delicious hint of citrus.

We enjoyed it yesterday sliced with some salt, pepper & drizzled with a little olive oil. It is the perfect eating tomato. Mr Chiot’s loves it because it’s not too acidic. This one’s definitely a winner in our garden, which is good. I grew this instead of Lemon Boy, which is Mr Chiot’s favorite eating tomato, so I’m glad it’s so delicious!
Our neighbor Daisy served these delicious slices of different kinds of cheesecakes at Christmas last year... oh they were delicious.
For Mother's Day I made a smoked Brisket in the Big Green Egg. I started with a 4.5+ lb brisket and took about 14 hrs (started at 11 pm) to get to 185 deg (it should be noted that in the middle of the night the smoker temp went below 200 which probably prolonged the cooking time), then 3 hours wrapped in foil and towels in a cooler and we then finally enjoyed it. I used Bobby Flay's rub (no mop) but also added 1 TB Garlic Powder, 1 TB of Chipotle and a bit of my Habanero/Caribbean Powder in place of the Cayenne Pepper. Lastly, I added beer to the drip pan, Frambozen (Raspberry Brown Ale from New Belgium Brewing).
A thin slice of a pear stuck on a window (for backlighting) and photographed as close as my sigma f2.8 18-50mm Macro could get. The area seen here is about the size of a US quarter. This is one slice above where the seeds were.

Just one small 🍕 , but not if your diabetic. No tingly lips please! Made by my daughter who loves to bake. It's a 🍋 cheese 🎂. Cream cheese with condensed milk and lemon curd ontop. mmmmmmm. Followed by a ☕. Congrats to the Proteas!
